The Construction Estimator is the primary personnel to provide budgets for Federal Construction in meetings with Clients and Potential Clients. They will discuss the Client's needs and wants and come up with a scope of work and then price that scope using subcontractor and supplier bids as well as experience and Means data. They will work directly with the Project Manager to plan the bid out of work for all projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work direct with the Design Consultant to come up with scopes of work and prepare initial budgets for Owner review
- Occasionally type up and provide Solution Letters for the Design Consultants review and for delivery to the Owner
- Work with the Design Consultant and Senior Project Manager to develop the Construction Documents by suppling review comments at phases of design.
- Set up and distribute Invitations to Bid and make contact with craftsman to procure at least three bids per scope of work
- Create detailed projected estimate with unit costs and verify all required scopes of work
- Document and communicate effectively the estimated pricing and reasons for them
- Set up and keep updated a database of unit costs
- Submit accurate pricing and / or bids on time
- Work with the Project Manger to define the estimate and import estimated costs into the Company Software
- Review job costs during and after the project with Project Managers to improve the estimating process
- Review subcontractor proposals for scope accuracy and pricing and negotiate changes to both as required
- Answer questions presented by the Project Manager and make contact if required with the Craftsman about scopes of work
- Control costs through efficient use of resources and value engineering when possible by presenting options for review by the Owner
- Maintain regular documentation in the project database
- Work with the Project Managers to ensure all work complies with the plans and specifications set forth by the Design Team
- Work with the Design Consultant to complete all closeout requirements on Proposed Jobs.
- Keep Upper Management updated via reports during bi-weekly status update meetings
- Capitalize on daily opportunities for excellence
