Tax Research and Planning Officer

The Tax Research and Planning Officer conducts research on tax revenues, tax impact, and economic conditions affecting State taxation programs; develops tax revenue plans to meet State government expenditure needs, analyzes tax structures and recommends tax legislation to meet such needs; supervises and participates in the preparation of regular and special statistical and other research reports; and performs other duties as assigned.
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements : Legal Authorization to Work : The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States. Basic Education / Experience : Bachelor's degree from an accredited university with a minimum of six (6) credit hours or its equivalent in the area of statistics, including but not limited to course work in statistical inference, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, regression theory and other topics of commensurate difficulty and responsibility. Excess work experience as described in the General or Specialized Experience sections below, or any other progressively responsible administrative, professional or analytical work experience which provided knowledge, skills and abilities comparable to those acquired in four (4) years of successful study leading to a baccalaureate degree may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis, except for the coursework in statistics. General Experience : TWO (2) years of progressively responsible work which has provided an understanding of the principles of policy and program development, statistical and technical analysis, administration and economics. This work experience MUST demonstrate the individual's ability to develop and direct studies designed to evaluate complex economic policies and programs currently in effect and having broad basis in either the public sector or a large corporation.
