Principal Data Center BTM Construction Program Manager

The job location for this role is open to our corporate offices in Denver, CO, Seattle, WA, Alexandria, VA, and Austin, TX, as well as on the construction site in Sparks, NV.
Position Overview
The Principal Data Center BTM Construction Program Manager provides strategic leadership and management for all behind-the-meter (BTM) construction projects across Fleet's portfolio. Reporting to the VP of Construction, this role is responsible for program-level planning, execution, and performance management of BTM projects, ensuring alignment with Fleet's mission-critical operational standards and corporate objectives.
This position will manage multiple BTM Construction Managers and project teams across multiple regions ensuring consistent delivery, quality, and cost control across all BTM projects.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Strategic Oversight
- Lead and manage the BTM construction program across multiple hyperscale data center projects, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy and operational objectives.
- This role oversees all aspects of BTM installation, commissioning, turnover, and demobilization, ensuring compliance with Fleet's standards, client requirements, and regulatory obligations.
- Lead all on-site activities for major project deployments, including civil, mechanical, and electrical works
- Manage vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure alignment with project scope, schedule, and budget
- Develop and maintain site logistics plans, work schedules, and resource allocation
- Coordinate with engineering, logistics, and project management teams to ensure seamless execution
- Maintain accurate site records, including daily reports, progress tracking, and change documentation
- Monitor progress against project milestones and proactively address delays or disruptions
- Serve as the primary site contact for clients, inspectors, and stakeholders
- Support commissioning and handover processes, ensuring operational readiness and client satisfaction
- Identify and mitigate risks, escalating issues as needed to project leadership
- Establish program-level goals, KPIs, and metrics for schedule, budget, quality, and safety performance.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to Construction Managers and project teams, promoting best practices and continuous improvement.
- Ensure standardization of processes, procedures, and documentation for BTM projects globally.
Project & Portfolio Management
Oversee the planning, sequencing, and execution of multiple BTM projects, including medium-voltage switchgear, transformers, UPS, generators, feeders, and supporting civil / structural work.Monitor portfolio-level budgets, schedules, and performance, proactively identifying and mitigating risks.Coordinate cross-project dependencies and resource allocation to optimize delivery and minimize conflicts.Review and approve project scopes, plans, and change management strategies to ensure consistency across the program.Stakeholder Collaboration
Serve as the senior point of contact for all BTM program initiatives across internal teams, contractors, vendors, and utilities.Provide executive-level reporting on program performance, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership.Partner with operations, commissioning, and design teams to ensure BTM systems meet reliability, redundancy, and operational standards.Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and excellence across all projects within the BTM program.Risk Management & Continuous Improvement
Identify systemic risks and implement strategies to mitigate program-level challenges.Drive continuous improvement initiatives across all BTM construction projects.Lead lessons-learned sessions, benchmarking, and best practice adoption across the program.Ensure adherence to all environmental, health, and safety standards, including medium-voltage and UPS protocols.Tools & Systems
Maintain program oversight using Procore, Primavera P6, or equivalent project and portfolio management tools.Ensure accurate, consistent reporting and documentation across all BTM projects.Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience7+ years of progressive experience in construction management, with at least 5 years managing mission-critical BTM or power infrastructure projects.7+ years of experience leading multi-project programs in a large-scale construction environment.7+ years of experience with medium-voltage switchgear, transformers, UPS, generators, feeders, and associated civil / structural work.7+ years of experience with Procore, Primavera P6, MS Project, or other project and portfolio management tools.Preferred Qualifications
Experience in related BTM projects, ideally supporting Data Centers or mission-critical deployments.Demonstrated ability to manage multiple Senior CMs and project teams across complex, multi-site programs.Knowledge of commissioning, energization, and operational readiness for BTM systems.Ability to influence senior leadership and cross-functional teams across global projects.Self-starter capable of managing high-profile, high-impact programs in a fast-paced environment.Strong leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills.Proven track record managing multi-disciplinary teams on complex, high-value projectsStrong knowledge of construction safety standards, QA / QC practices, and project controlsExcellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skillsExpected Salary Range : $150,000 $200,000 base + an annual bonus
