The Senior Geologist is responsible for management, development, and supervision of personnel within the Geology Group of Corporate Technical Services including technical expertise and final review (QA / QC) on all work products (proposals, reports, report sections, etc.).

This position works in collaboration with other managers and reports to the Principal of Technical Services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Supervise and direct technical staff to achieve goals for Geology Group.

2. Administer geology projects including financial performance, budgeting, change orders, project staffing, the issuance of purchase orders, and approval of subcontractor invoices, maintaining project files and closing projects.

3. Provide final review of geology and other Technical Services project submittals, reports or report sections and correspondence.

4. Evaluate geology project needs and effectively delegating various tasks and responsibilities and supervising the staff performing those tasks.

5. Coach and mentor geology and other Technical Services team members in the technical activities required to achieve objectives and deadlines.

6. Understand and direct tasks necessary to complete a geology project’s scope of work. Activities include, but are not limited to geologic interpretations, cross sections, conceptual site models, soil classification, boring logs and groundwater modeling.

7. Maintain consultant contact throughout the project to keep the consultant informed of key project milestones, progress and budget.

8. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for the collection of geologic and related field data.

9. Develop and provide internal training for field staff and other personnel on matters related to geologic data collection, processing and reporting.

10. Provide litigation support for geology-related matters for outside clients and other company groups.

11. Effectively communicate through written reports and mentor staff in their development as effective writers.

12. Work cooperatively with other Technical Services groups to accomplish tasks.

13. Prepare proposals, budgets, and scopes of work for geology projects.

14. Support marketing efforts by writing newsletter articles, conducting webinars, preparing job descriptions and updating company resume.

15. Demonstrate expertise in some aspect of geology relevant to environmental consulting.

16. Must maintain current Indiana Licensed Professional Geologist licensure. Other combinations of education and experience that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

This position requires a bachelor's degree in Geology or a related field, as well as five years of relevant experience. The Geology Group focuses on interpreting and documenting geologic and hydrogeologic data, as well as writing environmental reports.

Key requirements for this position include attention to detail, the ability to quickly learn new concepts, and strong written communication skills.

Must also be eligible to obtain a signatory credential recognized in the State of Indiana or other states where COMPANY has offices, such as LPG, CHMM, Soil Scientist, or PE.

This position may also involve some limited direct-report management responsibilities.

Responsibilities for this role include taking a leadership role in writing and reviewing environmental reports, conducting QA / QC review of environmental field data, preparing and editing figures, developing conceptual site models, and working with various stakeholders to meet reporting deadlines.

The ideal candidate for this position should have the following skills :

  • Providing field support for hydrogeologic testing, such as pump test / slug testing.
  • Competently reviewing field documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Preparing moderate-complexity reports with minimal revisions.
  • Competent in preparing Potentiometric Surface Maps, concentration maps, and cross-sections.
  • Supervising and overseeing field projects.
  • Assisting with research for litigation support cases.
  • Having a basic understanding of environmental regulatory guidance for key Federal programs.
  • Able to manage budgets and timelines for low complexity tasks / projects.
  • Understanding and applying the rules related to the generation and disposal of investigation-derived waste.
  • Preparing a conceptual site model with oversight and support.
  • Able to independently prepare "contained-in" requests and other documents related to the disposal of site waste.
  • Acting as a technical resource for geologic evaluations, including soil, water, and vapor.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks for multiple task owners.
  • Providing quality control review of geology-related items, such as geologic interpretations, cross-sections, conceptual site models, soil classification, boring logs, etc.
