We are seeking a visionary leader to join our team as the Director of Disability Services and ADA Compliance Officer.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Senior Director for People Programs & Rewards, the Director of Disability Services and ADA Officer will be the driving force behind ensuring compliance and oversight of our disability services office.

This leadership role involves planning, establishing, and implementing programs that maintain best practices, policies, and procedures for ADA compliance across many areas - including accommodations, accessibility, and inclusivity.

The Director will serve as an advocate for individuals with disabilities, offering guidance to staff, student employees, and faculty, while advising leaders across campus on disability and accessibility matters.

Key Responsibilities :

As the designated ADA Compliance Officer, oversees accessibility and reducing barriers to accessibility, including web accessibility;

standardizing operating procedures within job accommodations, reassignment, and medical separation; and oversight of disability claim concerns, including liaison with Counsel and / or Title IX Officers on discrimination issues.

Develop strategic initiatives to address compliance and inclusivity, implement complaint resolution mechanisms, and foster an inclusive working environment.

Analyze workforce data and regulatory trends, serving on advisory committees regarding accessibility, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Represent the Human Resources Department on campus-wide and system-wide initiatives and committees.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in related area or an equivalent combination of experience / training. Juris Doctorate is preferred with strong background in ADA Compliance and / or litigation.

Broad knowledge of organizational personnel policies and applicable laws and regulations. Knowledge of applicable human resources policies and procedures.

This includes labor contracts and employment law, including the Americans with Disabilities Act and affirmative action / equal employment opportunity.

Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state policies, law and related compliance requirements regarding ADA Compliance and Discrimination.

Thorough understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act and of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, CA Fair Employment & Housing Act, Section 139.

5 of the CA State Labor Code, and Rules and Regulations determined by the Rehabilitation Unit of OBD (Sections 4635 through 4647 and Section 49, 5410), Labor Code Section 132A, CA Family Rights Act, U.

S. Family and Medical Leave Act, and Pregnancy Leave Act.

Strong management skills that include collaboration, coaching and developing subordinates, and ability to build relationships.

Demonstrated strong management and leadership skills with experience. Ability to promote a work environment that rewards individual and collective success, and the ability to motivate staff and act as a role model.

Demonstrated Ability to make decisions regarding hiring, evaluating, and development of subordinates.

Direct knowledge of specific functions in HR management information systems.

Demonstrated ability complete to complex analysis of case facts, policy, applicable law, and provide reasonable accommodation and accessibility recommendations.

Demonstrated ability and experience in problem identification and problem solving techniques.

Strong communication skills with a diversity of communication styles; may make verbal or written presentations. Demonstrated ability to handle extremely difficult or volatile situations / individuals effectively.

Demonstrated competency with and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
