The Technology team comprises Information Security, Service Delivery, Business Enabling Systems, eCommerce & Marketing Technology, Data and Stores, Services & Supply Chain. The team supports both online and in-store initiatives and is pursuing a strategic, actionable plan for growth.

Collaborative & Flexible Work Environment : The role is based at PetSmart's Phoenix Home Office with in-person collaboration and a flex workday (one remote day per week with leader approval) and an expected four days in the office.

About The Job

PetSmart LLC seeks a full-time Manager, Data Engineering based in Phoenix, AZ. Responsibilities include leading a team of data engineers and machine learning engineers to deliver high-quality products aligned with business objectives, developing a technology strategy focused on data product solutions, staying current with data engineering technologies, aligning initiatives with business priorities, ensuring transparent status reporting, managing vendor relationships, budget responsibilities, and fostering a collaborative team culture.

• Attract, lead, and develop a talented team of data engineers and machine learning engineers to deliver high-quality products within timelines and budget. Define roles, recruit, and provide clear guidance to ensure high performance.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive Technology strategy aligned with PetSmart's goals, focusing on data product solutions.
• Stay up to date with emerging Data Engineering technologies and best practices and identify opportunities for integration.
• Collaborate with other department leaders to align Data Engineering initiatives with business objectives and priorities; understand business requirements to leverage data for outcomes.
• Be accountable for project status, timelines, and stakeholder / executive communication.
• Build and maintain relationships with vendors and technology partners to leverage latest technologies.
• Partner with external vendors to augment resources and meet project demands.
• Develop and manage the IT budget in line with business objectives.
• Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication; promote continuous information exchange.
• Foster a positive team atmosphere, encourage collaboration, and reward behaviors aligned with goals.

This position requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, or related field and five years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in software development, data engineering, or machine learning in retail / CPG tech. Experience must include : data architecture, data management, data governance; Agile methodologies; cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud); cloud data platforms (Databricks, Snowflake, dbt Labs); and enterprise BI tools (MicroStrategy, Tableau, Power BI, ThoughtSpot, Looker). Must also have two years of experience leading teams of engineers, data scientists, and analysts. All experience may have been gained concurrently and after degree completion.
