Position Summary
The Payroll and Benefits Accountant is responsible for preparing journal entries reconciling payroll and benefits accounts troubleshooting payroll-related system activity and supporting bi-weekly payroll processing. This role also supports incentive pay calculations month-end close processes and the implementation of improved internal controls.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee integrations within the payroll system to ensure journal entries are posted and reconciled accurately
Investigate and resolve integration discrepancies related to payroll accounting activity
Maintain payroll calendars accrual schedules and compensation configurations
Complete weekly and monthly reconciliations for payroll and benefit-related general ledger accounts
Reconcile payroll cash activity to bank statements each payroll cycle
Track and adjust payroll and incentive accruals to maintain accurate financial records
Review payroll reports for accuracy and assist with processing bi-weekly payrolls as needed
Assist in establishing new state tax accounts when applicable
Support the month-end close process including journal preparation and reconciliation work within the ERP system
Work with internal teams on incentive calculations and updates to performance matrices
Identify control gaps or operational inefficiencies and recommend solutions
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related discipline or equivalent professional experience
Minimum of 2 years hands-on accounting experience with strong reconciliation exposure
Proficiency in Excel and general accounting software tools
Strong analytical communication and organizational skills
Ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities
Team-oriented approach with a focus on accuracy and accountability
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with modern ERP and HCM platforms (e.g. NetSuite Workday or similar)
CPA or progress toward certification is beneficial but not required
Working Environment
