The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Mental Health Program Specialist provides telephonic, short-term, goal-focused, non-clinical emotional support to wounded service members dealing with invisible injuries, and their caregivers and families, to improve their resilience and psychological well-being.

The Mental Health Program Specialist manages a weekly caseload of 40-50 participants, providing emotional support, goal-setting assistance, education, evaluating needs, and coordinating referrals to WWP programs and community mental health resources.

Applicant Alert - This position specific shift hours are as follows :

  • For our Tacoma, WA office 8 : 30AM - 4 : 30PM
  • For our San Antonio, TX office 10 : 30AM - 6 : 30PM
  • For our Jacksonville, FL office 11 : 30AM - 7 : 30PM

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide nonclinical telephonic emotional support, goal-setting assistance, and education to wounded service members, their caregivers, and their families participating in the WWP Talk program.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other significant mental health challenges.
  • Independently manage weekly caseload of 45-50 participants and determine appropriateness of participants in the program and next steps Evaluate Talk participant's needs and refer Talk participants to appropriate WWP programs and community mental health resources.
  • Input data and update relevant WWP electronic tracking systems, specifically for the Warrior / Family Support Members (FSMs) (e.

g., Salesforce as it relates to the case) Ensure case documentation and data are maintained accurately, timely, and appropriately within WWP internal databases.

  • Establish effective working relationships and work collaboratively with WWP teammates to provide innovative ways to serve our population with the goal of increasing quality of life and self-efficacy.
  • Participate in on-going development and training to keep current with Talk program requirements and maintain current knowledge of relevant mental health best practices.
  • Provide instruction, guidance, and monitor the progress of warrior's and family support member's SMART goals.
  • Complete crisis calls including suicide prevention and high-risk situations, empowering warriors for lasting recovery by mitigating the challenges that precipitated the crisis while removing barriers to care to enable the warrior to receive needed assistance.
  • Manage multiple tasks, assignments and functions, meeting deadlines and deliverables with usage of metrics to meet key performance indicators.
  • Share internal and external resources based on participant's needs (example : counseling, financial resources, local organizations in their communities, etc.).
  • Serves as subject matter experts and resource in the planning, coordination, and facilitation of virtual group sessions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated understanding of psychological and mental health issues.
  • Experience working with trauma.
  • Demonstrated understanding of military and veteran issues and the emotional impact of combat, e.g., traumatic brain injury (TBI), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and combat stress.
  • Ability to respond to sensitive matters with discernment and empathy.
  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence and exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals and build strong working relationships telephonically.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish credibility, be decisive, influence others, and influence change.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Wounded Warrior Project and its mission, values, programs, and services, and the impact of these programs and services on wounded warriors and their families.
  • Demonstrated understanding of professional relationship management and collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills. Effectively complete assignments and meet deadlines.
  • High energy level, self-starter, and willing to take initiative.

EXPERIENCE

Requirements

Four years of adult focused mental health programming or case management experience working with and providing support to individuals who are dealing with invisible injuries, e.

g., brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, etc.

Preferences

Five years of experience working with and providing support to wounded service members who are dealing with both visible and invisible injuries, e.

g., brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, and combat stress.

Five years of experience working with Substance Use Disorder, Suicide Prevention, and other Mental Health Disorders.

EDUCATION

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in relevant mental health field. An Associate degree may be considered in combination with a minimum of four years in a WWP mental health programmatic role.

Preferences

Master's degree in relevant mental health field.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • General office environment; temperature controlled.

For Washington State Applicants : The estimated hiring range for this position is between $65,945 - $82,432 annual base salary,subject to a candidate's combination of experience, qualifications, and credentials.

This position may also be eligible for an annual performance incentive.
