Description :
Unit notes : This role requires flexibility for capacity overflow covering flu and COVID season.
The RN will board patients and follow them to other units if needed.
Floating is not optional.
Must be able to travel with patients to other units.
No holiday requirements are necessary.
Beds in the unit : 26 beds with 3 trauma bays.
Treatment area has 4 beds.
No separate triage area exists; nurses will triage patients when in the department.
ER holds are intermixed with other patients, and ER nurses typically care for them.
A designated psych / seclusion room is available, with in-house security present 24 / 7.
On average, 60 patients are treated per day with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1 to 4.
Common diagnoses include abdominal pain, altered mental status, STEMI, stroke, and chest pain.
The patient population ranges from pediatric to geriatric.
Skills required include IV placement, administration of medications, and EKG rhythm interpretation.
Nursing staff performs 90% of blood draws, with lab staff available to assist.
Nurses monitor and interpret telemetry strips.
Radiology staff typically transports patients for imaging close to the ER.
Shifts are self-scheduled with a manager balancing the schedule.
Weekend requirements involve working every third weekend.
Nurses are expected to be flexible for holiday shifts if needed.
Most floating is to assist as a sitter.
Scrub color is navy blue, with specific policies regarding body modifications.
Orientation will include 1-2 shifts with a preceptor.
RTO needs to be communicated upfront.
Punctuality is essential as commitment to fulfilling the contract.
Cancellation policy allows for two shifts per contract.
Use of Cerner for charting is required.
This is an acute care setting in a trauma level 3 environment.
