Overview
Assistant / Associate Professor of Instruction : Production Manager (Non-Tenure Line Faculty) at Texas State University, School of Theatre, Dance, and Film (SoTDF). Starting spring 2026. The Production Manager oversees all functions surrounding the rehearsal and production process for Theatre productions selected by the Season Selection Committee, in support of the pedagogical and artistic visions of SoTDF. The Production Manager reports to the Director of SoTDF and must be available to work nights and weekends.
Responsibilities
- Active engagement in day-to-day operations and with all areas of production to promote clear communication.
- Developing and administering production calendars for Theatre Division productions, including rehearsal schedules, move-ins / outs, tech schedule, design and production deadlines, in collaboration with producing faculty and Operations Managers of the Performing Arts Center.
- Developing and administering production databases in Theatre Production SharePoint, including project sites for all productions containing all material and information required to plan and execute each production, including approved versions of scripts.
- Scheduling and supervising production meetings; attending production meetings and design presentations.
- Leading and attending all technical and dress rehearsals for season-selected productions to ensure safety, manage crew, oversee the rehearsal process, and advise students in collaboration with faculty / staff advisors.
- Scheduling and booking venues for rehearsals (company meetings, first rehearsals, crew watches, designer runs).
- Facilitating communication with guest artists and advising department administrators about hires from outside the department (pay, travel, lodging) in collaboration with administrators.
- Managing season selection meetings and maintaining the Production Handbook.
- Financial accounting and tracking of production expenses and the department production budget; securing rights for plays from royalty houses or publishers in collaboration with department assistants.
- Serving as a member of the Design, Technology, and Management Area leadership team.
- Managing Theatre Center room scheduling for co-curricular activities and special events.
- Teaching and / or supervising practicum and management courses in support of realized productions.
- Other duties related to production in the SoTDF.
Working Conditions
Manual dexterity; climbing stairs and ladders; pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.Training students and over-hire employees on equipment and technology; occasional elevated locations (catwalks, grids, spot booths / towers).Regular daytime office hours and meetings in addition to night and weekend hours.Qualifications
SoTDF – Production Manager (Assistant / Associate Professor of Instruction) : Degree in a related field; minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience; experience in production management, project management, arts management, technical theatre, or related field; experience managing live events; strong verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively.Associate Professor of Instruction – Production Manager : Degree in a related field; minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience; experience in production management, project management, arts management, technical theatre, or related field; experience managing live events; strong verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively.Preferred Qualifications
Two years of university-level experience.Production Manager or Director of Production experience.Experience with project management software and systems.Proficiency in AutoCAD and / or Vectorworks.Experience acquiring licensing.Application Procedures
