To provide educationally related occupational therapy services to students with various disabilities, according to the students' Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

Participates as a member of the IEP team, and performs assessment, recommendation, consultation, and direct services as a Designated Instructional Services provider throughout the district.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED OR RECEIVED :

General direction is provided by the Director of Health Services.

Provides technical guidance to related paraprofessional staff.

Representative Duties

  • Performs screening activities and evaluates specified related possible deficits in areas such as visual-motor, fine-motor skills, range of motion, activities of daily living, and sensorimotor integration as related to the students' ability to access their educational program, through district OT referral process.
  • Attends IEP meetings for students with suspected disability in related areas.
  • Develops and implements occupational therapy treatment and intervention plans that support the goals and objectives in the IEP, and meet the qualifications for occupational therapy services.
  • Collaborates with members of teaching and support staff in the development of a variety of strategies to meet the educational needs of students, including interpretation of related goals and objectives, related medical conditions, neuromuscular dysfunction, and orthopedic impairments requiring occupational therapy intervention.
  • Provides related consultation and training to parents, students, teachers, paraprofessionals, and program administrators.
  • Assist with occupational therapy program development and revision.
  • Provides technical assistance in the acquisition, design, repair, modification, or utilization of assistive devices and adaptive equipment used to meet the specific needs of students receiving OT as part of their total educational program.
  • Maintain required documentation of student abilities and functioning levels, progress toward goals and objectives, and attendance in specified therapy activities.
  • Attend designated staff and professional meetings, and participates in training and inservice that facilitates professional growth.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an Occupation Therapy program accredited jointly by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association and the American Occupational Therapy Association.
  • Valid registration by the American Occupational Therapy Association certifying clinical competence as a Registered Occupational Therapist.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification through a course approved by the American Red Cross and / or American Heart Association.

Employment Standards

The following documents MUST be attached to application in order to be considered :

  • Valid California license from the California Board of Occupational Therapy as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Valid California driver's license and proof of automobile insurance (ability to provide transportation between various school sites during the course of a work day)
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Copy of Official College Transcripts

COMPENSATION INCENTIVE

Newly hired employees into the position will be offered a $6,000 signing bonus; requires at least a three-year commitment.

Work Schedule : This position typically works full-time eight (8) hours per day; 40 hour work week; 190-day work calendar.

Salary and Benefits : The salary rate for a new employee is at the first step ($59.09 / hour) of the appropriate five-step salary schedule for the position.

The probationary period is 130 work days (not counting sick, industrial accident). Upon becoming permanent, a one-step salary advance shall be granted with future annual advances up to the fifth step of the salary schedule.

Work Environment and Physical Demands Work is generally performed in an indoor climate-controlled environment. Outside exposure to inclement weather when walking to and from buildings and traveling for site visitations.

Some sitting, standing, lifting, carrying, pushing and / or pulling, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, twisting at waist, reaching overhead, neck rotation.

Use fingers repetitively, have dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, tools and equipment; vision and hearing in normal range with or without correction;

speak clearly to exchange information.
