About the Department

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has 140 clinical providers, providing care at the main hospital in Hyde Park and seven off site locations.

We have more than 68,000 outpatient visits, 28,000 ultrasound visits, 2,800 deliveries, and 3,300 surgeries per year. Teaching, research, and the highest quality clinical care are top priorities for the Department.

The residency and fellowship programs are highly ranked and have a history of training leaders in healthcare. The Department also has a significant research enterprise, engaging in population health studies, as well as research conducted in wet laboratories on tumor biology, fibroid research, and hypertensive diseases in pregnancy.

Additionally, the Section of Family Planning has established a unique research center, CI3, which focuses on reproductive policy and innovations in sexual and reproductive health.

The department was ranked #16 on the 2022-2023 U.S. News & World Report.

Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled and highly motivated candidate to work collaboratively with the Urogynecologic Surgeons in NW Indiana at our new micro hospital in Crown Point.

This person will jointly support patients with pelvic floor disorders and be the primary provider for patients who desire non-surgical management of their urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse.

The individual will perform office procedures independently such as : pessary fittings, percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation, and urodynamics as well as assist the surgeon in the operating room.

In addition, this individual will work collaboratively with other advanced practice providers, fellows, and nurses to teach and prepare patients for surgery.

The role will perform duties as a PA, who is a skilled health care provider, qualified to evaluate, diagnosis, and treat patients under the scope of supervising and / or alternating supervising physicians.

Services provided by the Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery team include the depth and breadth of non-surgical and surgical care for women with urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and fecal incontinence.

The supervising physician or the alternate physician maintains final responsibility for the care of the patient and the performance of the PA.

Responsibilities

Independently sees patients in Crown Point clinical facility and works collaboratively with local and remote nursing and advanced practice providers in the Section to ensure patients have a seamless patient experience.

Performs and / or oversees office procedures such as pessary fittings, urodynamics, percutaneous nerve stimulation, etc.

Instructs and counsels patients about pelvic floor disorders and potential treatments (non-surgical and surgical).

Interprets diagnostic test results for deviations from normal.

Diagnoses and makes decisions about the management and treatment of patients.

Prescribes therapy or medication.

Participate in weekly Section patient care conferences with surgeons, fellows, and other advanced practice providers.

Assists surgeons in the operating room.

Teaches and counsels patients about surgical expectations and provide post operative care.

Visits and observes patients on hospital rounds or house calls, updating charts, ordering therapy, and reporting back to physician.

May order medical and laboratory supplies and equipment.

Designs patient education programs that include information required to make informed health care and treatment decisions.

Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account the benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family and the organization.

Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient’s plan of care.

Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education :

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree from an accredited school / college.

Work Experience :

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through a combination of education and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline.

Certifications :

Current and / or eligible for State of Illinois licensure / registration required. Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO). - State of Illinois

Preferred Qualifications

Education :

Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.

Experience :

Two years’ experience preferred in OB / GYN, surgical specialty, or primary care.

Licenses and Certifications :

Current Physician Assistant (PA) license / registration in the State of Indiana or eligibility to receive by start date.
