Overview
Maintenance Mechanic - 1st Shift (2025-2026 SY) at Norwalk Public Schools. Duties under the supervision of the supervisor of maintenance cover carpentry, plumbing, oil burner repair and trouble shooting, painter, dry wall and spackle, storekeeper, boiler furnace repair, mason and licensed electrician and plumber.
Responsibilities
- Perform work in the category of carpentry, plumbing, oil burner repair and troubleshooting, painting, dry wall and spackle, storekeeping, boiler / furnace repair, masonry, and licensed electrical and plumbing tasks.
Experience and Qualifications
Skill in the specified trade is a prime factor. Skill in one or more of the other trade areas is a requirement.Additional skills : ability to work with carpenter, plumber, electrician or painter; assist in moving stores and equipment; aid in all maintenance department projects.Tools to be furnished (large). Individual tools required by the employee, to be replaced as broken or worn out.Valid driver's license and means of transportation required.Education : High school, trade school, apprenticeship, or five years satisfactory work experience as a helper in a general plant maintenance situation.References and evidence of satisfactory prior performance in the field.Ability to read blueprints, estimate small jobs and take off materials from drawings for minor jobs.Electricians and plumbers must hold a valid license issued by the State or local control boards.Interpersonal skills and ability to follow instructions; time management to plan work and avoid delays.Work Schedule and Compensation
Days : Monday – Friday (8 hours / day)
Salary : In accordance with the collective bargaining agreement
