Utilities Maintenance Supervisor
Performs difficult technical and skilled trades work supervising the installation, maintenance, repair, and construction of municipal water and sewer lines and related areas; does related work as required. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the assigned supervisor. Continuous supervision is exercised over assigned staff.

General knowledge of the principles and practices of construction, repairs, and / or maintenance of municipal water and sewer lines and related areas. General knowledge of OSHA Standards that apply to areas of work responsibility. Ability to plan and supervise the work of skilled or semi-skilled workers on a large scale over a wide area; ability to establish effective working relationships with others; general knowledge of computer operations sufficient to enter, retrieve, and manipulate data.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE : Graduation from high school or equivalent and moderate experience installing, maintaining, and repairing municipal water and sewer lines including the operation of excavating equipment and considerable supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : OSHA Competent Person Trenching / Shoring and Confined Space Entry certification within 12 months of hire. Intermediate Work Zone Safety and Flagger certifications within 12 months of hire NIMS IS-700, IS-100, IS-200, and IS-300 training certificates within 12 months of hire. NC Grade II Wastewater Collection System Operators Certification and Grade B Distribution System Operators Certification within 18 months of hire. Obtain a NC Class A Commercial driver's license with Restriction 8 within three months of hire. PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, repetitive motions. The physical requirements of this position Very Heavy Work : Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and / or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and / or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The visual acuity requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform one or more of the following : operate machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws and mills where seeing job is at or within arm's reach; performs mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc. The conditions the worker will be subject to in this position : inside environmental conditions; protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The worker is subject to outside environmental conditions : no effective protection from weather. The worker is subject to both environmental conditions : activities occur inside and outside. The worker is subject to extreme cold : temperatures below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour. The worker is subject to extreme heat : temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour. The worker is subject to noise : there is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. The worker is subject to vibration : exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body. The worker is subject to hazards : includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions : one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin : fumes, odors dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation. The worker is subject to oils : there is air and / or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids. The worker is required to wear respirator. The worker frequently is in close quarters, crawl space, shafts, manholes, small-enclosed rooms, small sewage and water line pipes, and other areas that could cause claustrophobia. The worker is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways. Drug screening and criminal background check required.
