Job Summary :

The Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized nursing care to women during labor, delivery, and recovery, as well as to newborns immediately after birth. The RN collaborates with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe, compassionate, and effective care for both mother and baby.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Assess, monitor, and document the condition of mothers and fetuses during labor and delivery.
  • Provide emotional support, education, and guidance to patients and their families.
  • Administer prescribed medications, including epidurals and pain management interventions.
  • Assist physicians and midwives during childbirth and surgical procedures (e.g., cesarean sections).
  • Monitor and manage fetal heart tracings and maternal vital signs.
  • Initiate and manage IV lines, catheterizations, and other clinical procedures.
  • Perform neonatal assessments and provide initial newborn care.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to obstetric emergencies such as fetal distress, hemorrhage, or preeclampsia.
  • Educate patients about postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn safety.
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic health records.
  • Adhere to hospital policies, infection control standards, and patient safety protocols.

    • Qualifications :

  • Education : Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (ADN / BSN).
  • Licensure : Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.
  • Certifications :

    • Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Fetal Monitoring certification preferred.
  • Experience : 1–2 years of L&D or women’s health nursing experience preferred.
