Description :
The Central Service Technician is responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of supplies and equipment.
The employee must be conscientious regarding procedures and capable of accepting pressure assignments.
Clerical assignments and other duties relative to the department are also expected.
A high degree of confidentiality must be maintained while supporting the mission, vision, and values.
Essential job functions include ensuring proper operation of autoclave units prior to use daily.
The technician is responsible for ensuring biological and chemical tests at the beginning of every day shift if assigned and recording results in the appropriate log.
They will inspect gas and steam autoclaves for visible signs of malfunction.
Processing contaminated instruments and supplies returned is essential.
Knowledge of sterilization principles is necessary to correctly wrap or package items for sterilization.
All items must be processed appropriately following manufacturer's instructions.
The technician will assist with training and in-services for new and long-term employees.
Aseptic techniques must be applied in daily work assignments.
Storing supplies and equipment in appropriate locations is required.
Care for instruments, syringes, needles, and special procedure items is necessary, along with knowledge of their usage.
Assuring tray assemblage, proper packaging, and preparation for sterilization is essential.
Proper loading, operation, and cleaning of all sterilizers and general equipment must be performed.
Receiving and delivering surgical supplies and filling requisition requests are part of the duties.
The technician should be capable of ordering weekly department supplies when needed.
Maintaining all necessary records and documentation is required.
Seeking out needed information by staying informed and involved is necessary.
Reliable attendance and punctuality are expected, including observing appropriate break times.
Extending a scheduled shift when necessary to meet demands is part of the role.
Duties must be performed in a safe manner, in compliance with safety policies and procedures.
Adherence to the Code of Conduct and all appropriate policies and procedures is required.
Other relevant duties may be assigned as needed.
Compliance with federal, state, and local statutes and regulations is essential.
Adherence to compliance program policies and procedures is required.
Privacy and security policies must also be followed.
