Composite Design Engineer Saronic Technologies
Join Saronic Technologies, a leader in maritime defense autonomy, as a Composite Design Engineer focused on developing lightweight, high?performance composite structures for DoD maritime platforms.
Responsibilities
- Design, analyze, and optimize composite hulls, decks, enclosures, and other autonomous maritime platform structures.
- Create 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks, Siemens NX, and Fibersim.
- Perform hand calculations and laminate sizing using CLT tools to validate composite layups.
- Collaborate closely with naval architects, mechanical engineers, and autonomy teams to integrate composite structures with vessel systems.
- Define material specifications and source appropriate composite materials, including NCFs, resin systems, adhesives, and core materials.
- Develop manufacturing plans and work with in?house and external fabricators for prototype and production builds.
- Ensure compliance with MIL?STD and DoD structural integrity, weight, and signature management requirements.
- Drive design?for?manufacturing (DFM) and design?for?assembly (DFA) principles.
- Support testing, validation, and qualification of composite assemblies in laboratory and marine environments.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.2+ years of experience in composite structural design across aerospace, marine, automotive, or defense sectors.Strong understanding of composite materials (carbon fiber, fiberglass, resin infusion, etc.) and layup techniques.Experience with CAD and FEA software (e.g., Femap, ANSYS, Abaqus).Knowledge of mechanical testing, structural validation, and failure analysis of composite systems.Benefits
