Description\n\nMountain View Hospital is looking for a Registered Nurse / Licensed Practical Nurse / Pre-Admissions to join our team!\n\nJob Summary\n\nThe Pre-Admission nurse will phone patients prior surgery to obtain a thorough and comprehensive medical history from them, give pre-op instructions, initiate pre-op teaching and clarify the patients understanding of the procedure, intended anesthetic approach, expected outcomes and personal responsibilities. They must work in concert with the Scheduling Clerk for optimum utilization of the O.R. schedule, suites, personnel and equipment. They must be alert for potential problems encountered during the interview and handle them appropriately. • Contact patients prior to surgery.\n
• Identify scheduling and patient problems or special needs as you look at the\n\nschedule and prepare for calls. Specific items you should watch for : \n
• Clarify any possible question regarding the type of procedure the surgeon\n\nhas scheduled.\n
• Patients needing pre-op medications, lab work and specifics for MRSA.\n
• In appropriate patients due to medical complications, social problems, etc.\n
• Will the patient have a ride home, adult companion, appropriate equipment,\n\nsupplies and medications for postoperative care.\n
• Will the patient be able to make the follow-up visit with the doctor.\n
• Does the patient seem to understand the pre- and postoperative instructions.\n
• Check updated schedule for added cases. Confirm arrival and surgery times.\n
• Fill out a new pre-admit Form for any cases that were added.\n
• Check updated printouts. Double check surgery time that was given to patient at\n\ntime of interview. If time has changed, recall patient and give the new time. Place a\n\ncheck mark and initial below the new time to indicate that the patient has been\n\nnotified.\n
• Information for each patient can be obtained from the Surgery Schedule program.\n\nFill in every blank on the Pre-Admit Form!\n
• Verify correct spelling of name and whether there is a middle initial. If the\n\nname seems to be abbreviated or a nick-name, ask for full name.\n
• If the patient says they have been here before, verify what name they were\n\nusing at the time.\n
• Take completed charts to pre-op the day before surgery-sometime before mid\n\nafternoon.\n
• Call back the patients you have not been able to contact. If unable to reach patient\n\nat home or work, call the surgeons office and request they check their files for\n\nanother number, an emergency number or other contact person. Call this number to\n\nsee if they can assist you in reaching the patient.\n
• Prepare Pre-Admit Form for calls the next day. Patient information can be obtained\n\nin Scheduling Program on the computer.\n
• Demonstrate skills in interpersonal relationships with patients, their families or\n\nsignificant others, and co-workers.\n
• Recognize the need to establish rapport with patients and their families,\n\nthereby being effective in the process of patient teaching.\n
• Recognize the needs of patients family and others associated with him / her.\n
• Cooperate in lending knowledge and / or assistance to co-workers to expedite\n\npatient care in all aspects of scheduling process.\n
• Demonstrate a functional rapport with co-workers, anesthesiologists, patients\n\nand their families.\n
• Demonstrate the ability to evaluate suggestions and criticism objectively, and\n\nwherever necessary undertake to change behavior or seek further guidance.\n
• Demonstrate personal responsibility for maintaining an unquestionable\n\nattendance and leave record.\n
• Utilize education resources of the facility.\n
• Maintain a responsible attitude toward appropriate and efficient management of the\n\nfacility.\n
• Continually strive to provide care in the most cost-efficient manner possible.\n
• Respond to the needs of other departments during periods of conflict and in\n\nthe process of resolving mutual problems.\n

Licensure as a Registered Nurse or LPN in the state of Idaho. Current BLS required.\n\nExperience : Background in medical / surgical nursing required.\n\nEquipment / Technology : Computer experience required.\n\nLanguage / Communication : Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
