Casual Nursing Assistant
UPMC Hamot is looking for a Casual Nursing Assistant to join the Float Pool! Are you enrolled in nursing school and looking for an opportunity to provide patient care in different specializations? If so, we invite you to apply today! This position is Casual with rotating shifts, holidays and weekends required. 4, 8, or 12 hour shifts available! Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience.
Responsibilities :
- Provides direct patient care under RN supervision, including ADLs (bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating, turning, repositioning).
- Performs core nursing assistant tasks : vital signs, blood glucose testing, weights, I&O, specimen collection, Foley care, telemetry monitor application, restraint placement / removal, and intra-hospital transport.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and organized environment : safety checks, equipment cleaning, linen changes, hallway / equipment management.
- Acquires and distributes supplies and equipment; performs messenger functions; stocks rooms and unit areas.
- Delivers nourishments, fills water pitchers, distributes mail, and passes meal trays.
- Responds to call lights and telephones; transports patients.
- Provides companionship and one-on-one supervision as needed.
- Offers diversional activities to reduce / prevent restraint use.
- Documents patient care in medical records per procedures.
- Completes clerical tasks and complies with safety protocols, including bloodborne pathogen procedures.
- Reports equipment malfunctions appropriately.
- Communicates effectively with healthcare team; demonstrates cultural sensitivity and professionalism.
- Supports workplace safety for self and patients.
- Engages in self-improvement : seeks feedback, identifies learning needs, participates in self-review.
- Demonstrates accountability, motivation, and commitment to patients and colleagues.
- Suggests and supports departmental changes; views challenges constructively.
- Access to medications limited to delivery to nurse.
- Responds appropriately to emergent situations within scope of role.
High school diploma or GED. Successful completion of UPMC nursing assistant training program. Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances : Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer / Disability / Veteran.
