Job description

Stellantis is seeking an Electrical Root Cause Engineer who will be responsible for understanding the development, design, and system interaction of electrical and electronic systems within vehicles, including automotive body, audio, active chassis, and safety systems. This role requires a deep understanding of automotive technology, specification analysis, system understanding, and strong analytical skills to ensure that systems meet the defined design expectations.

The Engineer will work with Validation teams to ensure the reliability and performance of automotive systems by analyzing test results, troubleshooting, reproducing issues, and resolving component and system performance issues by identifying root causes. The role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to implement corrective actions.

Key testing properties include Plywood Buck, Vehicle-Hardware-in-the-Loop (VHIL), subsystem Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), and vehicles. The Engineer must have an in-depth understanding of CAN / LIN protocols and extensive experience with testing tools such as CANOE, traditional electrical testing equipment, and laboratory testing environments.

This role requires close collaboration with feature owners, engineering teams, extended teams, and suppliers to identify defects early and provide evidence for defect elimination. The Engineer will also contribute to test plan and procedure improvements.

Basic Qualifications :

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 7 years of experience
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive and test vehicles, including obtaining a chauffeur's license for heavy-duty trucks
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally (Canada / Mexico) up to 10%
  • Execution of test procedures aligned with validation guidelines and strategies
  • Analysis of test results, incident documentation, and resolution through system analysis
  • Troubleshooting ECUs, HIL systems, and test environments to minimize false positives
  • Implementation of continuous improvement strategies in test design and execution
  • Documentation of test environments, automation, and vehicle configurations
  • Experience with electrical debugging tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, CAN diagnostic tools (CANoe / CANalyzer), and voltage testing equipment
  • Familiarity with Over The Air (OTA) updates (FOTA, AOTA, MOTA, xOTA, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Master's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
  • Experience with EE Validation Hardware-in-the-Loop testing on vehicle systems
  • Knowledge of CAN bus and experience with Vector CAN tools
  • Experience with electrical debugging and vehicle / system validation
  • Knowledge of DFMEA and DVP&R processes
  • Training in DVP and DFMEA methodologies
  • Ability to debug CAN and CAN FD communication buses to determine root causes
  • Certification in problem-solving skills (e.g., Green Belt, Black Belt)
  • Experience with automated bench testing design for systems or components
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
