Care Partner, Float Pool Summer Program

This is a full-time term position lasting six months to one year.

A Term position is a staff position that exists for a period longer than six months but is not expected to last beyond one year. Although a position may exist for a specified or indefinite period, staff who accept term positions are not guaranteed employment for the entire period; they are employed for indefinite periods within the limit of the appointment. There are no guarantees of continued employment, either within the term or when the term ends.

The Care Partner Term Position is an option for nursing students interested in working at Vanderbilt University Medical Center during summer 2024. We have identified opportunities to work as Care Partners (non-licensed care team members) through the float pool that support Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.

Our goal is to provide an opportunity for nursing students to have summer employment in a role that will provide them clinical exposure, an opportunity to hone technical skills, and experience being part of the healthcare team providing care to patients at VUMC.

Requirements to participate:

  • Student in good standing in a CCNE/ACEN accredited nursing program. Must have completed fundamentals course plus at least one hospital based clinical rotation.

Details:

  • If selected, candidates will be hired into term Care Partner positions in the float pool. After orientation, you will function in a Care Partner (non-licensed) role.
  • Work commitment is full time (36 hours/week) and may be day shift or night shift and weekdays or weekends.
  • Start date options: May 6, May 20 and June 3
  • Orientation: classroom orientation will be followed by clinical orientation with a float pool Care Partner preceptor
  • Expectation is to work at least through August 10, 2024. There is a potential opportunity to work PRN over breaks or vacations from school.
  • Care Partners will be oriented to Acute Care areas.
  • Any requested time off during the course of summer program is unpaid time.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Assist with the delivery of patient care and maintenance of unit environmental standards under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
* Assists with day to day delivery of patient care.
* Facilitates efficient and safe patient care and flow by following work area standards.
* Serves as a liaison for communication and education of patient and family needs.
* Supports unit operations and patient flow by maintaining supplies, equipment and unit environmental standards.
* The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
* Clinical Competencies (Novice): Demonstrates sufficient fundamental proficiency to assist and perform clinical care including but not limited to vital signs, phlebotomy, specimen collection, medication administration and point of care testing as directed by unit standards.
* Care Partner Patient Documentation (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience or training working with clinical applications for patient documentation.
* Environment of Care (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience or training working with set up and maintenance of patient exam rooms, supplies and equipment.
* Planning & Organizing (Fundamental Awareness): Demonstrates ability to anticipate basic resource needs, identify discrete tasks, set priorities, define dependencies, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work for own assignments and responsibilities. Appropriately matches equipment, and capital resources to task demands. Prepares and presents clear and accurate status reports on projects and assignments.
