Shift : Full Time with On Call
Starting Pay is $19.04 / hour with Benefits. We pay more with experience.
This position will perform a variety of duties in and around the LHSH complex to insure the safe and efficient operation and repair of the facility's equipment, support systems and building components in accordance with NFPA, OSHA, Medicare standards, and building codes.
Systems maintenance primary duties include, but are not limited to, maintenance, repair and testing of water distribution systems and equipment, drainage and sewage systems, chilled water and hot water systems, electrical systems, plumbing systems, HVAC systems, and various patient care equipment.
Building maintenance primary duties will involve the maintenance and repair of the building, its components and accessories, and its appearance.
This will include, but is not limited to : walls, ceiling and flooring maintenance and repair, facility grounds, building fixtures and accessories such as doors, tables and chairs, window blinds, light fixtures, etc.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Completes job assignments in a timely manner.
- Performs mechanical jobs in an efficient manner (appliance repair, bed repair, pump repair, etc.).
- Performs electrical jobs in an efficient manner (light switch replacement, plug replacement, preliminary distribution system troubleshooting, light fixture repair, equipment repair, etc.).
- Performs general building maintenance repairs in an efficient manner (door hardware, ceiling tile windows, painting, etc.).
- Performs plumbing jobs in an efficient manner (faucet repair, commode repair, unstops drains and sewers, medical gas outlet repair, etc.).
- Performs preventive maintenance procedures in an efficient manner (greases motors and bearings, cleans / changes filters, checks equipment for loose or missing parts, electrical safety checks, etc.).
- Completes all documentation in an efficient manner as required.
- Participates as a member of the fire response team.
- Keeps work areas clean and orderly; cleans up after jobs are completed.
- Inspects the building when in route to perform service calls and reports problems to the Plant Operations office as a service request.
- Returns tools to proper places after use.
- Tags all equipment as to ownership and state of repair, as appropriate.
- Orders repair parts in a timely manner.
- Follows prescribed safety precautions.
- Possesses the ability to adapt to changes in workloads and demonstrates flexibility when faced with interruption.
- Performs work in an accurate and timely manner in crisis and emergency situations when time is of the essence.
- Demonstrates a willingness to perform assignments outside the scope of the job classification.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED :
- Familiar with plumbing, electrical, HVAC, boilers, chillers, pumps, domestic water systems, mechanical repair and general building maintenance techniques.
- Know the definitions of fundamental computer terms related to applications software and desktop PC's
- Know how to open, read, and respond to email
- Know how to manage electronic files
- Know how to print electronic documents and reports
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Minimum of two years working experience in building maintenance with skills which include plumbing, electrical, HVAC, boilers, chillers, pumps, domestic water systems, and mechanical work experience.
- Hospital environment experience preferred.
- A valid Texas Drivers License with no driving while intoxicated (DWI) convictions or any other factors which would preclude insurability is required.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
- Able to read, write and communicate in English. Have cognitive skills for math, decision making and excellent communication skills.
- Work in a temperature controlled environment and / or in a non-controlled environment.
- Work is of medium demand (i.e., walking, climbing, stooping, physical exertion and heavy lifting on occasion). Danger from falls, cuts and abrasions is present.
- Working long hours may be required.
- Working various shifts may be required.
- Subject to callback on a rotating basis.
- Telephone or equivalent is required.
- Potential for contact with chemicals, blood borne pathogens, and exposure to infectious disease.
- Able to lift 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques several times during shift.
