Staff Accountant

Our client, a local non-profit organization, is seeking a Staff Accountant to join their accounting team. This role reports to the Controller and will be responsible for assisting the Finance Department with a variety of accounting duties. You'll handle everything from journal entries and reconciliations to managing accounts payable and payroll, ensuring all financial activities comply with the organization's policies. You'll collaborate closely with the Controller and other finance staff to maintain and administer the department's financial systems.

Main Responsibilities

Prepare and manage journal entries for payroll, month-end closing, and other financial activities.

Assist with the reconciliation of general ledger and balance sheet accounts, including quarterly payroll reconciliations and bank statements.

Help with accounting for various grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts, ensuring proper coding and allocation of costs.

Monitor contract payments through system reports and testing to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Assist in coordinating both internal and external audits and support the finance team during monthly and year-end closings.

Handle sensitive financial information with discretion and confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

At least two years of experience in general ledger accounting.

Experience with ERP systems is required; Sage Intacct is a plus.

Experience working with federal, state, or private grants and contracts is required.

Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Location : NW Portland - hybrid flexibility

Salary : $65,000 - $75,000
