Description :
Med / Surg Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles.
In addition to general nursing care, responsibilities of Med / Surg Nurses include consulting and coordinating with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
They prepare and administer medications and record prescribed medications.
Nurses report adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with administration policies.
They educate patients on surgical procedures.
Nurses record patients' medical information and vital signs.
They monitor and adjust specialized equipment used on patients and interpret and record electronic displays.
Nurses initiate corrective action whenever the patient displays adverse symptomatology.
They provide bedside care for a wide variety of medical patients, including pre- and post-surgery patients.
Nurses initiate patient education plans as prescribed by a physician.
They teach patients and significant others how to manage their illness or injury, explaining post-treatment home care needs.
Nurses change dressings, insert catheters, and start IVs.
They prepare equipment and assist physicians during the examination and treatment of patients.
Nurses respond to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocols.
They participate in discharge planning.
Nurses utilize time management skills.
They record all care information concisely, accurately, and completely in a timely manner on the appropriate forms.
Nurses perform other position-related duties as assigned, depending on the assignment setting.
