Responsibilities Work in a 20-bed Intensive Care Unit in an acute hospital setting Patient ratio is typically 1 : 2 in ICU; may float to Med Surg or Tele units with higher patient loads Common cases include sepsis, DKA, hyperglycemia, COPD, post-op recovery, PN, PCI cardiac services, CVA, GI bleeds; no neuro cases Care for ICU-level patients, including those requiring advanced infusions (versed, Propofol, norepinephrine) and ventilator support (RT-managed) Reads and interprets own telemetry strips using GE equipment EMR used is Cerner 12-hour night shifts with a weekend requirement (2 weekends per 4 weeks) Holiday coverage required for 2 out of 3 major holidays Floating required to Med Surg and Tele floors; travelers are first to float Floor-specific orientation includes 2 shifts in ICU and 1 shift on another floor Travelers may be deployed to the ED to care for boarded ICU patients as needed Charge nurse serves as house resource and does not take patients No nurse aides assigned; must be able to manage full patient load independently IV team, RT, and pharmacy available 24 / 7; internal medicine in house 24 / 7; pulmonologists serve as intensivists but not always in house Navy scrubs required Must pass dysrhythmia and sterile technique testing as part of onboarding process Holiday coverage is mandatory, but travelers will have at least one major holiday off Requirements Active CA RN license required at the time of consideration Minimum 2 years recent ICU experience required Active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required; CCRN and critical care course preferred Proficient with ABCDE bundle, strong IV skills, and comfortable with ventilators Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips independently Must provide two professional references : one supervisor from the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years Copy of driver’s license required for consideration May not have been employed (full, part-time, or PRN) by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health within the past year Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-627333.
