Overview :

A public sector client of ours in Austin, Texas is looking for a Business Data Analyst for a 1-year contract that is likely to extend. This role will require up to 3 days onsite in their Austin office.

The Business Data Analyst will be responsible for analyzing existing business requirements to understand current functionalities, data flows, and pain points. The analyst will then leverage this understanding to elicit and write comprehensive business requirements for new systems or enhancements.

The role involves understanding business objectives and challenges, identifying alternative solutions, and performing cost / benefit analyses of proposed changes. The analyst will confer with organizational personnel to analyze current procedures, identify problems, and determine requirements such as data inputs, data summaries, and report formats. Duties include writing detailed user requirements, documenting program functions, and evaluating system capabilities to determine feasibility of changes within existing constraints.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze existing business requirements, processes, and data flows to identify pain points and opportunities for improvement.
• Translate complex business needs into clear, actionable requirements for technical and functional teams.
• Write Epics and User Stories, including acceptance criteria, to communicate functional and non-functional requirements to development and QA teams.
• Collaborate closely with business stakeholders, product owners, and technical teams to ensure alignment between business objectives and system capabilities.
• Document current state processes and develop future state requirements, data workflows, and data models.
• Design and present visual data models, dashboards, and reports to communicate trends, performance, and timelines.
• Facilitate workshops, interviews, and meetings to gather information and drive resolution of data-related issues.
• Prepare and maintain data-related documentation, including data dictionaries, requirement documents, and mapping specifications.
