The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for tasks related to safety and environmental hazards in the workplace. This position will work closely with the Plant Manager to implement companywide initiatives pertaining to EHS compliance and sustainability.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities :
- Develop company-wide safety programs / procedures, related EHS communications, and educational information. Practice safe working techniques and re-enforce the safety policies, guidelines, and procedures as established by the company.
- Prepare, coordinate, and deliver EHS training as required in accordance with state and federal guidelines. Execute safety-related training and presentations associated with company policies, OSHA requirements, new employee safety orientations, routine safety training and safety talks.
- Coordinate both internal and external (e.g. regulatory agency) EHS inspections, document as needed, and ensure deficiencies are minimized and corrected.
- Provide guidance and direction on EHS programs at the Employee and Supervisor level to ensure a commonsense and effective approach.
- Monitor compliance with established safety procedures.
- Responsible for daily chemical tank analyses conducted in inhouse lab and cleaning and calibration of some test equipment.
- Ensure safety data sheets are maintained and accessible when needed.
- Maintain documentation (training records, logs, etc.) associated with permits and regulatory requirements.
- Responsible for maintaining all pertinent documentation related to Air and Wastewater permitting.
- Work closely with our contract Environmental Consulting staff.
- Orders, maintains and distributes all safety equipment.
- Conducts monthly safety committee meetings and participates with safety audits as required.
- Manages employee health policies and initiatives, including but not limited to injury management, accident investigations and corrective action plans to minimize the effect of injuries on the employee and the company incident rate metrics.
- Developing and implementing corrective action recommendations and following up to prevent the possibility of recurrence.
- Assists with implementation of specialized programs to ensure facility compliance with hazardous waste management, storm water management, blood-borne pathogens, and confined space.
- Manages respiratory protection program.
- Inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
- Maintains safety files and records.
- Update and refresh EHS programs as needed.
- Manage external consultant services needed for technical support, as needed.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Requirements : Knowledge & Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to manage multiple projects and prioritize workload.Working knowledge of federal and state regulations including, but not limited to, OSHA, EPA and DOT regulations.Safety Certification(s) (e.g. ASP, RCRA, OHST, STS, etc.) a plusAbility to create formal written programs and policies for regulatory compliance, training and recordkeeping.Strong initiative, focus and follow-through skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal skillsA positive attitude, good judgment and a strong sense of responsibility.Excellent organizational skills.Will be a key holder to the facility and a point of contact for our Emergency Contingency Plan.Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite.Interpret applicable federal and state laws, regulations and orders as they pertain to all environmental and safety issues in the assigned facility.Experience
Ten (10) plus years’ experience in a manufacturing environment leading environmental and safety compliance.No relocation services available.Physical Demands
Standing and walking throughout manufacturing facility for audits and other needs.Exposure to chemicals using in the anodizing process.Heat from our machines and processes.Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
