Job Description

PLACEMENT AS ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE ENGINEER IS CONTINGENT UPON QUALIFICATIONS.

The ideal candidate will have at least two years of responsible journey-level experience at a public agency, a valid CA certificate of registration as an Engineer-in-Training, and a Bachelor's degree in engineering.SALARY RANGE (Dependent Upon Qualifications)

Associate Engineer

Experience and Education Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be : (A) Two years of responsible journey-level experience similar to an Assistant Engineer, (B) equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field, (C) possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license, and (D) a valid CA certificate of registration as an Engineer-in-Training.

Assistant Engineer

Experience and Education Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be : (A) Previous technical engineering experience, and construction / project management is desirable, (B) equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering, construction engineering, construction management, or a related field, (C) possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license. Possession of an Engineer-in-Training certificate is highly desirable.

TENTATIVE INTERVIEW SCHEDULE The first round of in-person panel interviews has been tentatively scheduled for the week of 11 / 17 / 2025.

The second round of in-person interviews has been tentatively scheduled for the week of 12 / 01 / 2025.

Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA)

All employees will receive a 2.5% COLA increase in the first full pay period of July 2026.

Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance

Medical and Dental :

  • The City contracts with CalPERS for medical insurance.
  • The City offers a flexible benefit plan to cover Medical and Dental insurance, covering up to $2304.00 per month for medical and dental coverage for employees and dependents (increasing to $2534 July 2026).
  • Employees with another form of eligible medical coverage may opt for a cash-in-lieu payment of $250.00 per month.

Vision :

  • The City covers 100% of employee's monthly Vision Insurance premium.
  • Retirement - CalPERS

    City employees are covered by the State of California Public Employees' Retirement System.

    Classic PERS Members (member prior to 01 / 01 / 2013) :

  • 2% @ 55 formula
  • Employee pays full member contribution of 7%
  • New CalPERS employees, as defined by PEPRA :

  • Retirement formula is 2% at 62
  • Employees pay applicable membership contribution.
  • Work Schedule :

    The City operates a 4 / 10 work schedule, with every Friday off.

    Holidays :

    The City observes 13 paid fixed holidays per year, plus 1 floating holiday of the employee's choosing, as well as additional days between Christmas and New Years.

  • Sick Leave :

    Sick leave accrues per pay period for a total of 96 hours per year, with no maximum hours accrued.

    Vacation :

    Regular, full-time employees accrue vacation at the following rates, with a maximum of 500 hours.

  • 80 hours of vacation during the first four years of service
  • 120 hour during years 5 through 9
  • 160 hours per year after 9 years
  • After 1 Year of employment, additional benefits available :

    Tuition Reimbursement

    The City shall reimburse up to $1,500 per fiscal year for tuition and / or books for a job related or career development coursework. The city shall also match an employee's cost for tuition and / or books in an additional amount of up to $1,500 for a total City reimbursement amount of up to $3,000 per fiscal year. All Tuition reimbursements are subject to the eligibility requirement outlined in the City's Tuition Reimbursement policy.

    Employee Computer Purchase Program

    Need a computer? The City offers a computer loan program; employees have 12 months to pay back the City, interest free, via payroll deduction. (Maximum $3,000).

    Flexible Spending Account

    Following one-year of employment you may participate in a Flexible Spending Account. This gives you the benefit of setting aside money for your-out-of-pocket medical expenses and / or childcare expenses pre-tax.
