Senior Project Manager
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading complex, strategic initiatives that require effective resource management and cross-functional integration. This role drives projects from ideation through successful completion, navigating phase gates such as discovery and estimation, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals, adherence to budget and schedule, and maintenance of quality standards. The Senior PM acts as a key contributor, applying project management best practices and effectively communicating with stakeholders. This individual thrives in a dynamic environment, demonstrating a proactive approach to problem-solving, a knack for asking clarifying questions, and a talent for building collaborative relationships.
Essential Functions
- Project Leadership : Lead and manage complex, strategic projects, often involving virtual and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Project Planning & Estimation : Develop detailed project plans, including goals, strategies, staffing, schedules, risk management, contingency plans, and resource allocation. Demonstrate proficiency in project estimation techniques to accurately forecast resource needs, project timelines, and budget requirements.
- Project Execution & Coordination : Coordinate project tasks, ensuring alignment with the project plan and achievement of project goals. This includes effective resource planning, budget management, and proactive issue identification and resolution.
- Change Management : Manage changes to project scope, schedule, and budget using established verification techniques, ensuring accurate and up-to-date project documentation.
- Requirements Gathering & Documentation : Elicit, document, and manage stakeholder requirements, constraints, and assumptions to define clear project deliverables, utilizing various requirements-gathering techniques (e.g., planning sessions, brainstorming, focus groups).
- Performance Monitoring & Control : Monitor project performance using appropriate tools and techniques, identify and quantify variances, implement corrective actions, and communicate progress to stakeholders.
- Process Improvement : Contribute to the evaluation and improvement of project management processes, tools, and metrics, including participation in post-project retrospectives.
- Stakeholder Management : Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, recognizing dependencies and fostering collaboration.
- Team Collaboration : Facilitate team collaboration and contribute to a positive project environment.
- Vendor Management : Assist in the preparation and presentation of statements of work and proposals for vendors and potential customers.
- Resource Management : Manage project resources, including budget, forecast, and personnel, ensuring optimal utilization.
- Mentoring & Guidance : Provide guidance and support to less experienced project team members.
- Risk & Issue Management : Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and issues, contributing to timely resolution.
- Communication : Adapt communication styles to suit the audience, demonstrating the ability to ask clarifying questions.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities but may provide guidance and mentorship to junior project managers.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business, Project Management, or a related field.Minimum of five (5) years of proven experience leading complex and strategic projects.Equivalent combination of education and experience.Certifications and Licenses
Project Management Professional (PMP), Program Management Professional (PgMP), or similar certification is highly desired.Other Required Qualifications
Proven track record of successful project delivery within budget and schedule.
