About the Opportunity
The Director of Construction is responsible for overseeing and managing restaurant construction projects from initiation through completion. The Director of Construction is responsible for planning, coordinating, budgeting, and supervising all construction activities on site and ensuring all projects are completed on schedule, budget, and safety requirements and standards for construction are upheld.
Core Responsibilities
- Proven track record of managing ground up builds, tenant improvements, and remodels for restaurant projects
- Strong knowledge of restaurant construction processes, including kitchen equipment coordination and installation, MEP systems, and ADA compliance
- Ability to communicate with stakeholders including developers, landlords, architecture and design team, city officials, and operations team
- Develop project timelines, budgets, and schedules
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in various phases of design, pre-construction, and building and closeout
- Work with subs and outside resources to provide project estimates based on site and location
- Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, site plans, construction documents, and specifications
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, designers, and stakeholders to determine project requirements and specifications
- Manage pre-construction activities including permits, site assessments, and procurement
- Supervise construction activities to ensure work aligns with project plans and specifications
- Manage subcontractors, laborers, and site staff to maintain productivity, project oversight, and quality control
- Monitor project progress, address site and / or coordination issues, implement design and construction solutions, and initiate RFIs to ensure coordination and schedule is on track
- Monitor project budgets to ensure cost effective practices
- Review and approve invoices, change orders, and vendor contracts
- Identify and mitigate cost overruns
- Ensure work complies with local, state, and federal regulations
- Familiar with restaurant specific building codes, health and safety regulations, and permits
- Enforce safety protocols and maintain a clean and hazard free job site
- Conduct regular inspections and address compliance or safety violations
- Communicate and document project status with stakeholders, lead OAC meetings, develop and manage project reports, construction schedules, budgets, cost estimating, value engineering, and punch lists
- Lead on-site meetings and coordination for all internal and external teams
Requirements
Degree in Construction Management, or related field10+ years related hospitality or restaurant construction experience highly preferredProven ability to manage mid-scale construction projectsStrong knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and construction processesStrong leadership, organizational, and communication skillsExcellent problem solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution skillsAbility to multi-task and work under pressure with tight deadlinesProficient in project management software (Procore, MS Project, Bluebeam, AutoCAD)OSHA Certification, PMP, CCM CertifiedAbility to travel as requiredPerks
