Session Hotline Operator
Salary : $3,298 per month Opening Date : 11 / 03 / 2025 Closing Date : 11 / 30 / 2025 11 : 59 PM Location : Olympia, WA These positions are full-time, temporary, are not eligible for benefits and do not pay into retirement The Legislative Information Center (LIC) is a service provided by the Washington State Legislature. Our mission is to provide courteous, accurate, and timely information about the Legislature and the legislative process to the citizens of Washington State and the members and staff of the Legislature. As a member of the LIC team, the Session Hotline Operator demonstrates a strong commitment to customer service by receiving and forwarding telephone messages from the public to legislators and responding to inquiries about the current legislative session or the legislative process.
Typical Work / Duties : Staff the Hotline phones, answer questions about constituent issues and forward electronic messages to Senators, Representatives, and the Governor. Answer questions (by phone) and provide information on legislation and the legislative process, meeting times and places and other legislative matters and help find laws and agency rules that may be applicable to a caller's questions. Help the public and staff navigate the Legislative Website. Perform other work as required.
Knowledge / Skills : Basic keyboarding, computer, and technology skills. Basic knowledge of the structure of Washington State Government and the legislative process. Clear, pleasant speaking voice with strong verbal communication skills. Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Ability to : Maintain professionalism and composure when interacting with the public, staff, and legislators in all situations. Exercise sound judgment, discretion, and maintain confidentiality. Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team. Complete tasks accurately and efficiently while meeting deadlines. Education / Job Experience : Some college coursework or a college degree or Work or volunteer experience that demonstrates proficiency with basic phone and research skills or involves direct interaction with the public.
Conditions of Employment / Working Conditions : These temporary positions are expected to begin around January 12, 2026, and continue through the anticipated end of the 2026 Legislative Session on March 12, 2026. Onsite, in-person attendance is required Monday Friday from 9 : 00 a.m. 6 : 00 p.m., for the duration of the legislative session.
