Pretrial Officer (Intake & Investigation) On-Call - Lee County
This is an on-call position with limited hours as needed. The role involves professional investigative work around the clock to provide quality and timely information to the criminal courts to support pretrial release decisions. All Pretrial Officers are cross-trained and may serve as backups for other positions. Duties and shifts may change based on department needs with limited hours.
Key Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, public administration or a related field
- Two years of specific related experience in pretrial and / or intake operations
- NCIC / FCIC certification within 30 days of hire and continuous certification throughout employment
- Ability to maintain jail security clearance and work in a jail setting
- Knowledge of methods, practices, principles, procedures and techniques used in interviewing and investigating as it pertains to the operation of the department
- Ability to write, speak audibly, clearly and accurately in English and Spanish is preferred
- Ability to work any on-call shift schedule including weekends, holidays and emergency situations, without exception
Summary
The pretrial officer performs professional investigative work around the clock to provide quality and timely information to the criminal courts, which supports the judicial decision to release or detain the defendant. The pretrial officer conducts a full intake / investigation on defendants as part of the booking process into the jail. Pretrial officers verify defendants' intake information and produce a First Appearance report used by judges in pretrial release decisions. The pretrial officer reports to the pretrial supervisor. Duties include interviews and investigations, court preparation and presentation, facilitating pretrial supervision releases, and other assigned duties. All Pretrial Officers are cross-trained. Duties, assignments and / or work shifts may be changed with notice based on department needs with limited hours.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Interviews and Investigations : Interview all defendants booked into the jail facilities, collect and verify demographic and criminal history information, assess risk and need, determine indigence for appointment of counsel, and prepare comprehensive pretrial reports for First Appearance judgesCourt Preparation and Presentation : Prepare and submit quality summary reports to the court and interact with law enforcement, counsel, jail and court personnel to make reliable release recommendationsFacilitate Pretrial Supervision Releases : Provide orientation and review of court orders for defendants approved for pretrial supervision; conduct holds for Electronic Monitoring when necessaryOther Duties as AssignedQualifications
