Purpose Statement

The job of School Nutrition Services Manager-In-Training is to assist and support the Food Service Manager with daily operational and financial responsibilities in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Assist cafeteria workers with food preparation, meal service, confirming quantities and quality of food items are available for use and complying with mandated USDA School Breakfast Program (SBP) and National School Lunch Program (NSLP) meal pattern regulations and all health requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Under the direction of the Manager, learn managerial skills necessary to become a manager and learn ordering, receiving, forecasting, inventory End of Day paperwork, etc.
  • Assist Food Service Manager with training new employees
  • Assist Food Service Manager with new employee follow-up visits
  • Substitute for employees / Assistant Manager / Manager who are absent
  • Participate in regularly scheduled Manager meetings
  • Participates in on-site training as scheduled
  • Any other duties assigned as needed

Other Functions

Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.

Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the function of job includes : adhering to safety practices; operating equipment used in quantity food preparation;

planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and using pertinent software applications.

  • KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculation using fractions, percent, and / or ratios; read a variety of manuals and / or present information to others;
  • and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes : safety practices and procedures;

quantity cooking and baking; and food handling and sanitation.

  • ABILITY is required to schedule activities and / or meetings; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances;
  • and operate equipment using a variety of processes. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and / or groups;

and utilize a variety of types of job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans.

  • Problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include;
  • maintaining confidentiality; communicating with persons of varied backgrounds; providing direction and leadership; adapting to changing work priorities;

working within time constraints; and working as part of a team.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include : working under limited supervision following standardized practices and / or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit;

and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job’s functions.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and / or pulling;

some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and / or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity.

Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 65% walking and 30% standing. Must be able to lift 25-50 lbs. The job is performed under with some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions. Experience

Job related experience within specialized field with increasing levels of responsibility is required. Education

Targeted job related education that meets organization’s prerequisite requirements.
