The EL Teacher creates and implements activities and lessons based on ELP Standards for the language development of EL students. They also provide 60 minutes daily/300 minutes weekly of required instruction for elementary level EL students or 50 minutes daily/250 minutes weekly for secondary level EL students.
Responsibilities:
The EL Teacher supports students in acquiring English through the language development approach. EL Teachers create lesson plans that target specific ELP standards based on the student’s proficiency level and grade level and monitor their progress to promote their language acquisition.
Ongoing Tasks:
Attend meetings with parents, ELC, PEA, and teacherAttend grade- or subject-level meetings to help plan integrated EL instructionCollaborate with grade-level teachers to determine students’ strengths and weaknesses for lesson planningMonitor students’ progress through quarterly reportsCreate and maintain a schedule for targeted instruction time with PEA and grade-level teachersCollaborate with grade-level teachers to identify and implement any accommodations necessary for the student to access the curriculumParticipate in professional development opportunities at the Phoenix Home OfficeCreate lesson plans aligned with ELP standardsCollaborate with ELC on student AZELLA results
REQUIREMENTS (for Teachers and Coordinators)Candidates must hold at least a bachelor’s degree and a valid Arizona teaching certification, with an SEI or EL Endorsement or the equivalent SEI or EL training, if not certificated.Candidates must be proficient in the use of technology.Great Hearts teachers must also demonstrate a commitment to and love for the liberal arts and a commitment to diversity.
PREFERENCES
The ideal candidate has previous experience working with English Language Learners.
