Job Title : Cardiac Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN)

Location : Lynchburg, VA 24501 (Virginia healthcare jobs)

Start Date : December 1, 2025

End Date : February 28, 2026

Contract Duration : 13 weeks

Hours per Week : 36 or 48

Contract Options : 36-hour and 48-hour contracts available

Estimated Weekly Salary Range : $1,780 - $1,910

Shift : 12-hour nights

Block Schedule : Not available; weekend-only requests considered

Holiday Coverage : Must be able to work 2 out of 3 winter holidays

Registered Nurse Qualifications

Active Virginia or Compact RN license (required for Virginia nursing jobs)

Minimum 2 years of recent experience in cardiac stepdown, intermediate care, or related specialty

Prior travel nursing experience required

BLS and ACLS certifications required

NIH Stroke Scale certification required

Charge nurse experience preferred

Experience with Cerner EMR preferred

Comfortable working in a teaching hospital and supporting students / new hires

All requested time off must be submitted with application

Local candidates within 60 miles are not eligible

Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities

Provide high-quality nursing care to patients in med-surg, telemetry, cardiac IMCU, neuro, and CVA units

Monitor and assess cardiac stepdown patients, responding to changes in condition

Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement patient care plans

Mentor and support students and new hires in a teaching hospital environment

Accurately document patient care using Cerner EMR

Participate in unit orientation and ongoing nursing education

Follow hospital policies, infection control, and safety standards
