Job description

Senior Director, Asset Management

The Senior Director, Asset Management is responsible for driving the financial performance and operational excellence of one or more energy assets within Osaka Gas USA’s (OGUSA) Power Business Unit. This role oversees all business, legal, financial, partnership, and public relations aspects of assigned assets, ensuring they meet OSHA safety standards, profitability targets, and strategic objectives.

Working with a dedicated team, the Senior Director, Asset Management leads technical and operational functions, including asset management and development activities for OGUSA-owned or managed gas-fired IPP assets in the US. Responsibilities include managing the physical, financial, contractual, and regulatory operations of these assets, with full profit and loss (P&L) accountability and governance oversight. Coordination with the Energy Management (EM) team is essential to align operational decisions with commercial strategies.

This role requires both technical and commercial expertise to ensure sustained operational excellence and strong Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) performance, translating into robust financial outcomes. The Senior Director, Asset Management organizes and participates in asset-level meetings, provides technical analysis for decision‑making, leads budget development, and oversees financial performance, including cash flow planning and funding requests. Additional responsibilities include supporting investment and divestment activities through analytical and technical input, ensuring contractual and regulatory compliance, and maintaining a clear understanding of the financial impact of strategic decisions. The role also involves monitoring long‑term asset value using Net Present Value (NPV) models in collaboration with the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team.

Success in this role requires close collaboration across internal functions and with third‑party service providers to deliver comprehensive asset management services. A strong leadership presence and the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively across all organizational levels—including executives, partners, staff, and plant personnel—are essential.

Essential Job Functions – Operations & Asset Management

  • Provide strategic oversight of managed project companies, focusing on optimizing plant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), cash flow, P&L, EH&S, maintenance, and meeting project Asset Management Agreement (AMA) requirements.
  • Serve as the primary interface to the plant; maintain daily communication with the plant manager to monitor operations and resolve issues. Ensure 24 / 7 emergency contact lists are current.
  • Develop and review recommended Operations and Maintenance (O&M) plans aligned with energy management strategy and contractual requirements.
  • Coordinate planned / forced outages, environmental exceedances, and other reportable events with OGAM Plant Operations to ensure regulatory and contractual compliance.
  • Manage and negotiate with third‑party vendors (O&M providers, equipment suppliers, insurance brokers), collaborating with plant staff to improve performance, reliability, and EH&S.
  • Ensure compliance with vendor selection and purchase order policies in coordination with the plant manager.
  • Monitor assigned facilities for efficiency, safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance; analyze operating data and resolve escalated issues.

Budgeting, Planning & Variance Analysis

  • Collaborate with management to develop annual budgets and long‑term financial projections for each asset, securing approvals from partners and lenders.
  • Analyze financial data and actual operating performance in coordination with O&M, Energy Management, and FP&A teams.
  • Oversee cash flow management, distributions, and profit forecasting.
  • Internal & External Collaboration

  • Contribute to disaster recovery planning and implementation within the Asset Management unit.
  • Collaborate across functions to develop business practices supporting both partner needs and OGUSA’s Power division.
  • Facilitate Project meetings, Board of Managers meetings / calls, summarize project activities, and obtain partner approvals.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with internal stakeholders, partners, and counterparties.
  • Support onboarding, training, and mentoring team members.
  • Assist with commercial activities, including due diligence for new projects in core and non‑core markets.
  • Reporting (Monthly, Quarterly, Annual, Ad‑Hoc)

  • Produce recurring asset management reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support creation and updates of financial statements, tax returns, and payments.
  • Respond to project‑related queries from partners, auditors, and internal teams.
  • Ensure timely submission of required reports to lenders and authorities in collaboration with Osaka Gas Asset Management (OGAM).
  • Maintain documentation in accordance with internal policies.
  • Asset Analysis & Performance Improvement

  • Develop procedures to monitor and enhance facility performance, including EH&S standards.
  • Analyze operational, commercial, and contractual performance to identify improvement opportunities and benchmark against industry standards.
  • Assist in evaluating and analyzing the growing asset management function in underperforming assets by looking at key strategies and best practices. Track industry innovations and assess applicability to OGUSA assets.
  • Provide analysis and recommendations to support management decisions.
  • Execute approved performance improvement initiatives.
  • Leadership Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to meet business goals and profitability targets.
  • Drive productivity, quality, and continuous improvement across assigned assets.
  • Foster transparent communication and strong relationships through regular meetings.
  • Ensure a safe, secure, and compliant work environment with a goal of zero lost time accidents.
  • Develop team capabilities through mentoring, performance management, and strategic recruitment.
  • Requirements

    Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred; degrees in Economics, Finance, or related fields considered. MBA and experience in project development or mergers and acquisitions (M&A) due diligence are a plus.

  • Proven leadership in managing US power generation assets (preferably gas‑fired combined cycle) with full P&L responsibility.
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Demonstrated success in operational and financial performance improvement.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance, contracts, and vendor management.
  • Strong understanding of EH&S and safety standards.
