A DAY IN THE LIFE

Our Socio-Economics Leader (Associate Scientist) position is remote (ideally in New England area but not a requirement).

As a key member of the Ecosystem Service Economics team, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities including :

  • A remote work position with the opportunities for an office-based position in the US, you'll prepare technical work to assessments of risks and impacts of resource and brownfield development decisions, cleanup options for contaminated sites, and social / community management plans.
  • Contribute to socio-economic aspects related to water resources management, socio-economic assessment, social surveys, statistical analysis of social data, and analysis of socio-economic conditions.
  • Lead implementation of project engagement plans and strategy and assist in the development and refinement of project execution plans.
  • Ensure records of engagement are maintained and accurate to support regulatory filings and ongoing relationship building.
  • Support and collaborate on engagement efforts with Indigenous communities, stakeholders and regulatory agencies
  • Support project teams and provide leadership in advancing innovative solutions for projects, as required.
  • Develop early-career staff through on-the-job mentorship, training, and professional development.
  • Participate in industry forums, as required, to enhance the sharing of best practices and lessons learned.
  • Contribute to the ongoing building of a high performing team of technical experts and professionals to provide timely, coordinated and comprehensive support to business client groups.

YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required.

  • We are seeking a highly collaborative socio-economic lead who has knowledge and experience in leading socio-economic planning, programs and strategies.
  • You will work with various environmental discipline groups, such as human health and ecological risk assessors, site remediation, community economic development planning, and EIS specialists.
  • Master's or Doctorate degree focus on environmental or social science from a recognized institution is required.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in Social Impact Assessment, and related fields that might include Indigenous Relations, Environment, Archaeology, Anthropology, Law, Community Development, Stakeholder Engagement, Land, or Government Relations.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Knowledge of the US and Canada regulatory processes and consultation guidelines, particularly as they are related to brownfield site redevelopment and the energy industry.
  • Experience engaging with regulatory and business representatives and communities to resolve complex and often contentious issues.
