Join to apply for the High School Writing Tutor role at Varsity Tutors, a Nerdy Company . The Varsity Tutors Live Learning Platform connects thousands of students with online tutors nationwide. As a tutor on the platform, you’ll have the flexibility to set your own schedule, earn competitive rates, and make a real impact on students’ learning journeys—from the comfort of your home.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1-on-1 online tutoring to individual high school students.
  • Accept on-demand tutoring requests (Instant Tutoring) whenever you’re available.
  • Personalize lessons and adapt to different learning styles; help students achieve their learning goals.
  • Use the platform to generate instructional materials and engage with students to maximize learning outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
  • Expertise in High School Writing with the ability to explain concepts clearly.
  • Ability to personalize lessons and adapt to different learning styles.
  • Priority given to those with tutoring experience, teaching experience, and graduate-level education.

    • Compensation and Benefits

  • Base contract rates start at $18 / hour and increase for specialized subjects; pay can reach up to $40 / hour with the same student.
  • Get paid up to twice per week, for tutoring sessions you conduct and invoice.
  • Set your own hours and tutor as much as you’d like.
  • Tutor remotely using our Live Learning Platform—no commuting required.
  • Get matched with students best-suited to your teaching style and expertise.
  • AI-powered Tutor Copilot enhances sessions with real-time instructional support, lesson generation, and engagement features.
  • We handle logistics—you invoice for sessions and we process payments.
