BEHAVIOR TECHNICIANS (Candidate Bank)

The UW Autism Center (UWAC) is currently hiring for both full-time and part-time salaried Behavior Technicians in both our Tacoma and Seattle clinic locations.

Our Behavior Technicians are key members of our ABA LAUNCH program, which provides initial evidence based Applied Behavior Analysis services to families waiting to receive ongoing therapy for children up to 6 years with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Schedule is typically 4 days a week, 10 hours a day, but based on clinic needs.

The UW Autism Center (UWAC) is a nonprofit organization within the Institute on Human Development and Disability in UW Pediatrics and is devoted to supporting families affected by autism spectrum disorders through exceptional clinical services, innovative scientific research and high-quality training.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

PROVIDE INTERVENTION

  • Provide direct 1 : 1 intervention to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a classroom / clinic setting.
  • Implement intervention protocols developed by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) to increase skills / reduce problem behaviors and using principles of applied behavior analysis.

Tailor procedures to fit individual interests / needs.

Provide responsible, positive, sensitive intervention and care during therapy and will work under close supervision of masters level clinical staff.

DEVELOP MATERIALS

  • Create picture cards, books, etc. as needed for the therapy program.
  • Produce motivation charts, token boards, visual schedules, play materials, etc.

MANAGING RECORDS AND ORGANIZING THERAPY SPACE

  • Organize and maintain computer and paper records of therapy including collecting and accurately recording data in each therapy session, graphing data and completing treatment notes.
  • Maintain spaces in an organized, clean, and child-proof manner.
  • Attend required meeting.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Two years of college level course work in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience performing work in support of clinical, biomedical, or behavioral research studies involving human subject OR equivalent education / experience.

DESIRED SKILLS AND BACKGROUNDS

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (psychology, education, human / child development).
  • Training and experience in early intensive behavioral intervention for children with autism, early intervention for toddlers, developmental psychology, behavior analysis, special education, or related fields and experience working directly with children and families with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
  • Ability and willingness to interact with children in a spontaneous and creative way.
  • This position involves physical care which may require moving children between the ages of 12-48 months.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility to occasionally travel to / from Seattle / Tacoma clinic locations when needed.

Conditions of Employment :

  • Licensure and certification, if appropriate to the field (, Certified Behavior Technician (CBT))
  • This position is subject to criminal background investigation, and TB testing.
  • Employees must have 40 hours of training according to the BACB Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) Task List. Upon hire employees will be expected to pass a competency assessment and must be willing to complete Washington State requirements to work as a Certified Behavior Technician (CBT) through the WA State Department of Health.
