Job Description
The City of Naperville has an opportunity for an experienced claims professional as part of its in-house Legal Department. As a self-insured municipality, the City of Naperville’s Administrator will manage automobile liability, general liability, and workers’ compensation programs for a workforce of nearly 1,000 employees. This critical position investigates and resolve claims, while managing third-party administrators and administering the self-insurance fund budget.
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $29.9552 to $35.9462 per hour commensurate with credentials and experience. The Pay Grade for this position is N225. For additional information, click here .
Duties
- Investigates, evaluates, negotiates, and settles automobile and general liability claims against the City, including conducting site visits, interviews, photographic documentation, records collection, and analysis of liability, reserves, and damages.
- Manages the City’s workers’ compensation program, including oversight of the third-party administrator, coordination of medical treatment, authorization of care, return-to-work and alternate duty accommodations, and collaboration with counsel on contested claims.
- Pursues subrogation and property damage recoveries for losses that the City sustains.
- Records, tracks, and reports claims-related information and data; analyzes claims data, identifies loss trends, prepares reports for the City Council, City Manager, departments, and the Safety Team, and recommends risk mitigation strategies.
- Provides analytical, technical, and administrative support to City attorneys in claims-related litigation, including preparation of discovery responses, document production, motions and briefs, and trial or testimony assistance.
- Prepares, administers, and monitors the self-insurance fund budgets for workers’ compensation, automobile, and general liability claims; executes departmental chargebacks and financial reporting.
- Reviews contracts, certificates of insurance, and insurance policies to ensure appropriate coverage, terms, and compliance.
- Serves as a resource to all City departments on liability, workers’ compensation, insurance coverage, and loss prevention issues.
- Participates in Safety Team initiatives and provides or coordinates related training on accident investigation and workers’ compensation.
- Strives to improve overall Legal Department operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline processes, and collaborate to provide quality customer service.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required :
Associate’s degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Business Administration, Public Administration or closely related field.Minimum of three years’ experience in claims adjusting or claims management with demonstrated experience investigating, evaluating, negotiating, and settling claims, and establishing reserves.Experience pursuing subrogation or property-damage recovery.Valid State of Illinois Driver’s License (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).Preferred :
Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in claims adjusting or claims management, to include both bodily injury / liability claims and workers’ compensation claims.Public-sector or self-insured entity claims experience.Illinois Public Adjuster License (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire)One or more of the following professional designations : ARM, CPCU, CRM, RIMS-CRMP, AID, CCP, or SCLAAdditional Information
