Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures. Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving. Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls.
Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care. Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.Assist with processing of specimens when needed.Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment Requirements : Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or meet local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements.
Minimum 1-2 years of clinical laboratory testing experience is required for Technologist level. Previous experience is not required at the Technologist Trainee level ASCP or AMT certification is preferred.
Ability to work independently and within a team environment. Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems are a plus.
High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills. Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen.
Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.
Essential Functions
Performassignedclinicallaboratorytestingaccuratelyandinatimelymanner.
oResolve pendings. Retrieve and check specimens against pending list. Document specimendiscrepancies.Notifylaboratorymanagementwhenspecimendiscrepancies are notresolved.
oPrepare workstation and instrumentation for the assignedtesting.
oProperlyhandlespecimensandindependentlyresolvetechnicalspecimenissuesin preparation for analysis and specimen storage. Contact internal customers for clarification asneeded.
oOperateinstrumentstoperformtestinginaccordancewithestablishedwritten procedures.
oPerforms routine testing and calculations asrequired.
oResolve routine and non-routine assayproblems.
Ensurethevalidityoftestsresultsthroughtheperformanceofestablishedqualityassurance and quality controlprocedures.
oPerformexperiments,asscheduled,forevaluationofnewCalibratorand / orQClots. Summarizeresultsofinvestigationsandcompiledataforreviewbymanagement.
oDocument quality control results. Interpret quality control results according to Westgardrulesorotherestablisheddepartmentalproceduresandaccuratelydocument biases, warnings and violations of controlvalues.
oDocumentcorrectiveactionforunusualoccurrences(e.g.QCviolations,instrument relatedproblems).
oAnalyze proficiency testing survey samples as patientspecimens.
Reagents / Materials / Supplies :
oReceive,openandplaceinserviceallreagents / materialsaccordingtoSOPs.
oPrepare and properly label reagent, quality control, calibratormaterial.
oDocument implementation of new reagents / materials according toSOPs.
oPerformparalleltesting,linearity’s,stability,otherqualitycontrolpracticesneededto ensure validity of material prior to being placed intoservice.
oPerforminventorycontrolofsuppliesandreagentsasapprovedbymanagement.
Result Entry (Auto-verification and manualentry).
oWhen dataismanuallyentered(e.g.QC,patientdata)ensurepeerreviewisperformed and documented prior to release ofresults.
oPrepareproperdocumentationoftestresultsandenterintotheinformationsystem.
oGenerate an appropriate audit trail for allactivities.
oDocumentandcommunicateanyresultreportingproblemsorinconsistenciesto laboratorymanagement.
oCompletetestingwithintheexpectedturnaroundtimetomeetcustomers’expectations.
Ensuresmaintenanceofinstrumentsandequipmentisperformedaccordingtomanufacturer and SOP requirements, and documented according toSOP.
oCalibrate instruments, equipment and / or assays as required anddocument.
oPerform basic instrument and equipmenttroubleshooting.
oPerform pipette calibrations and document according toSOP.
oNotifylaboratorymanagementwhenaninstrumentorequipmentdoesnotmeet specifications.
ComplywithregulatoryguidelinesandCovanceStandardOperatingProcedures(SOPs)atall times.
Training
oIndividualisresponsibleformaintaininghis / hercompleteup-to-datetrainingfileand isaccountableforcorrectinganddeficienciesfoundinhis / hertrainingfile.
oIndividualisresponsibleforensuringhe / sheistrainedandtrainingisdocumentedprior to performing atask.
oTheindividualsuccessfullycompletes,asscheduled,competencyassessmentand ensures competency testing documentation is provided to management for review / retention.
oCompetentlyperformsdepartmentdutiesassetforthinthedepartmenttraining checklist(s).
oMayassistintrainingnewemployeesandfollows-uptoensuretrainingisunderstood.
oAttends,asscheduled,department,mandatoryandothermeetingsandtraining,as required according to trainingmatrices.
Work to achieve partnership with both internal customers and external clientsby :
oPull data in a timely manner for review by QA and externalclients.
oContribute to the provision of accurate verbal or written response to internal QA and clientauditfindings.Coordinate,whereneeded,withotherresourcestoresolveissue.
