Overview :

As a Business Development Officer specializing in commercial lending, you will play a crucial role in identifying, cultivating, and securing new business opportunities within the commercial lending sector.

Your primary responsibility will be to drive revenue growth by acquiring new clients, maintain relationships with existing clients, and promoting the organization’s suite of commercial lending products and services.

The position will also be involved with credit union initiatives in support of the Chief Experience Officer, including but not limited to, the coordination of identifying future real estate opportunities and building strategic partnerships for the credit union.

Responsibilities :

  • Prospecting and Lead Generation : Identify potential clients through market research, networking, and lead generation activities, Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of prospects.
  • Client Acquisition : Initiate contact with potential clients, assess their financial needs, and propose appropriate commercial lending solutions.

Collaborate with internal stakeholders to structure and present competitive loan offers.

  • Commercial Loan Origination : Originates, services, and manages various types of commercial loans including real estate acquisition and refinance, land, construction, renovation, commercial vehicles, equipment, working capital lines of credit and commercial credit cards while meeting established quality, and income goals, and otherwise ensures each loan meets appropriate underwriting criteria.
  • Relationship Management : Build and nurture strong relationships with clients, understanding their business goals and financial objectives.

Provide ongoing support and guidance throughout the lending process to ensure client satisfaction and retention.

  • Market Analysis : Stay abreast of market trends, industry developments, and competitor activities. Analyze market data to identify opportunities for growth and innovation within the commercial lending landscape.
  • Compliance and Risk Management : Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies throughout the client onboarding and lending process, conduct thorough risk assessments and due diligence to mitigate potential credit risks.
  • Performance Tracking and Reporting : Monitor Key performance indicators (KPIs) related to business development, loan portfolio growth, loan quality and compliance.

Prepare regular reports and presentations to communicate progress, challenges, and opportunities to senior management.

Business Solutions : Assesses the viability of commercial property for purchase or lease by the credit union utilizing market knowledge.

Collaborates with real estate brokers, attorneys, and other contacts as needed.

CreditUnderwriting : Strong understanding of financial analysis, credit underwriting, and risk management principles.

Job Requirements :

  • Proven track record of success in business development, sales, or relationship management within the financial services industry
  • 3+ years of experience with Commercial / Business Lending and Underwriting, required.
  • Strong understanding of financial analysis, credit underwriting and risk management principles.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Finance, Accounting or equivalent, preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM software
