People Architects is proud to partner with a respected institution in Cleveland in the search for a Senior Accountant to lead day-to-day financial operations. We're looking for a detail-oriented accounting professional with nonprofit experience to support accurate, compliant, and transparent financial management. In this hands-on role, you’ll work closely with a fractional CFO, senior leadership, and the development team to ensure operational excellence and audit readiness—enabling the broader team to focus on impactful programming and community engagement.
Responsibilities :
- Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting practices
- Reconcile bank and credit card statements on a monthly basis
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, and donation entries
- Process payroll for approximately 40 staff (full-time, part-time, and seasonal) using Paylocity
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports
- Partner with the development team to track donations, pledges, and restricted funds, ensuring accurate allocation in QuickBooks Online
- Monitor and report on cash flow; assist with budgeting and forecasting
- Support annual audits and ensure compliance with reporting requirements for grants and funding partners
- Interface with tools such as DonorPerfect, Square, QGiv, and financial portals (e.g., Fidelity, PNC, Clearstead)
Qualifications (required and preferred) :
5+ years of hands-on bookkeeping experience, preferably in a nonprofit or arts-based environmentExpertise in QuickBooks Online and proficiency in Microsoft ExcelExperience with nonprofit accounting, fund tracking, and donor-restricted contributionsFamiliarity with Paylocity or similar payroll platformsHigh attention to detail and organizational skillsStrong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departmentsExperience with CRM / donor platforms (e.g., DonorPerfect) is strongly preferredComfort working with external auditors, foundations, and grant reportingExposure to platforms such as Square, QGiv, Fidelity, PNC, or Clearstead is a plusBonus : Experience working with external auditors and foundation reportingWe are committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
