Summary

The Career and College Promise (CCP) Coach leads the strategic coordination and execution of dual-enrollment initiatives for eligible high school students in collaboration with Johnston County Public Schools (JCPS), charter schools, private schools, and home schools. This role requires a high degree of accuracy, independent judgment, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure compliance with state regulations and to maximize student success. Errors in this role can result in mis-advisement, loss of funding, or student ineligibility.

Knowledge & Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive college enrollment guidance to high school students, counselors, and administrators, ensuring accurate interpretation of program requirements.
  • Advise students enrolled in Cooperative Innovative High School programs located on the JCC campus, providing tailored academic and career planning.
  • Develop in person advising and registration schedules by aligning with each high school's calendar and CCP population needs.
  • Guide students through academic planning and course registration, aligning selections with career pathways and long-term educational goals.
  • Coordinate with JCPS Representatives to ensure pathway / course compliance for reporting to state and local entities that provide funding for tuition, books and fees.
  • Provide career coaching and direct students to Career Services for assessments and resumes as well as lead them to guidance counselors for local high school career programs and apprenticeships.
  • Strategize innovative ways to use multiple CCP pathways for the tailored needs of the student's future Programs of Study (POS).
  • Design and implement targeted outreach strategies to engage underrepresented and at-risk student populations, increasing program accessibility and equity.
  • Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., Accessibility Services, Jaguar Office of Learning Technologies) to ensure seamless program operations and student support.
  • Intervene proactively with students identified by early alert systems or those not meeting academic standards, implementing retention strategies.
  • Monitor and interpret evolving regulations from the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) and Department of Public Instruction (DPI), ensuring institutional compliance.
  • Engage in professional development and maintain active membership in relevant professional organizations.
  • Foster an inclusive and respectful environment that values diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
  • Communicate effectively and diplomatically with students, families, and educational partners to build trust and ensure program clarity.
  • Execute additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Career and College Promise.

Qualifications

Education Minimum : Bachelors degree

Experience Minimum :

One (1) to three (3) years' experience with program coordination, student advising or an appropriate combination of experience at the post-secondary level.

Experience Preferred :

Three (3) to five (5) years' experience working in the community college setting in CCP or Student Services.

  • Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions and demonstrating intellectual capabilities.
  • Computer Skills

  • Ability to retrieve data from student information systems.
  • Proficient in computer programs : Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Informer, and Colleague.
  • Knowledge of modern office equipment including computers and printers.
  • Ability to complete file transfers between systems.
