Job Title : Resident in Counseling Department : Student Life Supervisor : Lead Counselor FLSA Classification : Non-Exempt Schedule : Regular, 9mo., PT (15-20 hours)
Job Summary :
The resident counselor will provide short-term individual, group, and crisis counseling; consultation services and outreach programming; initial assessments and after-hours emergency coverage for EMU undergraduate and graduate students. Duties / Responsibilities : Establish open lines of communication for individuals with mental or emotional issues. Offer assistance to individuals with substance abuse issues. Provide brief psychotherapy and or prevention-oriented therapy. Implement and review treatment plans. Collaborate with additional treatment providers and placement agencies. Ensure all documentation is completed in a timely manner. Responds to professional or clinical feedback. Participate in organizational and clinical staff meetings and other university-wide meetings as appropriate. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills / Abilities :
Education and Experience :
Completed all requirements for their master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from a CACREP-accredited graduate program OR their doctoral degree in counseling or clinical psychology from an APA-approved graduate program, prior to the start of residency.
Physical Requirements :
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands and fingers, to handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
