The Denver Urban Renewal Authority (DURA) has an immediate need for a motivated and detail-oriented accounting professional to join our team. DURA is a 15-person organization with a $5 million general fund budget, overseeing urban redevelopment and community investment programs within Denver. Reporting to the CFO, this role will be the lead accounting professional and subject matter expert with respect to all accounting activity and reporting, internal controls, and GASB and GAAP compliance. As the top accounting professional and resource to the CFO and the overall organization, the Sr. Accounting Manager will be involved in supporting presentations to the Finance and Audit Committee and the Board of Commissioners.
Understanding and experience working with federal, state and local funding sources, managing grant contract requirements, and public financing (municipal bonds) will contribute greatly to long-term success in this role.
The Sr. Accounting Manager plays a critical role leading and directing accounting operations, financial reporting, annual audit preparation including auditor field activity, and will have primary responsibility for ensuring proper internal controls. This person will be a thought partner to the CFO in support of strategic financial planning, financial system integration, accounting and financial policy development and process improvement. This person will routinely support annual budgeting and compliance activity in cooperation with other team members. Accordingly, this role requires strong communication, leadership, analytical, and quantitative skills. This is a hands-on position. DURA is a small but impactful agency of 15 staff members. The Accounting / Finance team is comprised of three individuals, including this position. Given the lean structure, all team members are expected to engage in a wide range of responsibilities—from daily and monthly tasks to project oriented tasks—in support of departmental goals. A spirit of collaboration, flexibility, and a strong sense of teamwork is essential to success in this role.
