Job Summary
The Director of Firmwide Marketing will be the strategic steward of the firm’s brand and market presence, driving all marketing initiatives in alignment with the firm’s design vision, sector growth strategies, and business development objectives. This position oversees integrated marketing efforts across all of the firm’s core practice areas including Healthcare, Education, and Community and Culture. This position will ensure the firm is well-positioned to compete for and win high-profile, mission-aligned work. This position will report to the President and work in close partnership with Practice Leaders, Principals, Studio Leaders, Marketing, Media and Graphics teams. The Director of Firmwide Marketing will lead a collaborative team responsible for pursuit strategy, proposal generation and submission, company brand / image, PR and communications, digital presence and thought leadership.
This position can be located in either of our Los Angelese, Ontario, Sacramento, or San Diego California offices.
Position Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop, lead, and continually refine the firm’s annual marketing plan to advance sector-specific positioning and revenue growth.
- Collaborate with Practice Leaders, Principals and the marketing team to align go-to-market strategies with pipeline priorities.
- Leverage market intelligence and sector trend analysis to identify emerging opportunities and strengthen competitive positioning.
Team Management & Structure
Direct and mentor a multi-disciplinary marketing team, at all levels and areas of marketing including proposal management, graphics design, visualization, digital / social media marketing, communication / PR and support staff.Foster a collaborative studio culture, encouraging cross-discipline idea exchange and professional growth that is in line with the firm’s workplace values and behaviors expectations.Set clear goals and expectations for team and individual performance, provide regular feedback, and champion continuous improvement.Pursuit & Brand Management
Oversee go / no-go processes, capture planning, pursuit strategy meetings, and content development for competitive proposals, SF330 packages, and design competition submissions.Ensure that all marketing collateral such as project sheets, qualifications packages, sector narratives, contain quality data and communicate the firm’s design story with clarity and impact.Lead development of sector-specific thought leadership, white papers, award submissions, and conference presentations.Maintain a strong, consistent brand presence across all touchpoints, including website, social platforms, e-marketing, and trade publications.Direct sponsorships, industry partnerships, and event activations that align with targeted market sectors.KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)
Pursuit Win Rate : Target win percentage for priority pursuits and design competitions.Win Capture Ratio : Target fees won competitively per marketing cost spentQualified Pipeline Growth : Increase in sector-specific leads generated through marketing initiatives.Brand Visibility : Growth in media coverage, speaking engagements, and award recognitions.Digital Engagement : Year-over-year increase in website visits, social engagement, and newsletter metrics.Budget Performance : Maintain annual marketing spend within approved parameters while delivering maximum ROI.Team Retention & Development : Achieve targeted retention rates and ensure ongoing skill advancement.Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Architecture, or related field; Master’s degree or MBA preferred.10-15+ years of marketing experience in a professional services organization.8–10+ years of marketing leadership experience in the architecture, engineering, or construction (AEC) industry, preferably within a design-focused practice.Experience in, or knowledge of, developing marketing proposals and pursuit strategies for the healthcare, education and community sector clients.Proven expertise in pursuit strategy, competitive positioning, and client relationship supportDeep understanding of professional services submittals, RFQ / RFP processes, and practice / sector specific protocols.Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire creative, deadline-driven marketing teams.Strong grasp of digital marketing, social media strategy, and thought leadership development for design firms.Proficiency in CRM platforms, InDesign, Adobe Creative Suite; familiarity with Deltek Vision or Vantagepoint a plus.Strong public speaking skills for delivery of industry, firm wide, and office presentations.Must be a self-starter and resilient, with a high self-accountability for achieving results and deadlines.Exceptional written, verbal, and visual communication skills, with the ability to translate design concepts into compelling narratives.AIA and / or DBIA membership, accreditation, and affiliation preferred.Ability to travel up to 20% of time for inter-offices, client meetings and industry events.The salary range for this position is $133,772 to $207,512.
The actual offered salary for this position will vary depending on multiple factors including the candidate’s qualification, education, position knowledge, work experience, skills, ability, work location, and internal incumbent compensation for similar roles. We do not anticipate individuals hired into this position will start at or near the top half of the range listed; the decision will be based on each individual case. The salary range listed above does not include other compensation elements such as discretionary bonus opportunities, employee stock ownership grants, paid time off, medical insurance, and other wage and benefit opportunities.
