About Maui Huliau :

Maui Huliau Foundation was founded in 2010 with a mission to promote environmental literacy and leadership among Maui’s youth.

We work with youth ages 12-18 from all schools, public and private, on Maui and Molokaʻi. Through our unique hands-on programs, we seek to educate and empower youth to become future stewards of our natural environment.

We accomplish this by engaging them in real-life projects alongside community members, which help them realize the power they have in creating positive change for our islands.

Our programs focus on filmmaking, leadership, zero waste education and climate literacy. We currently have three full time staff and one part time staff member.

About our work environment

We do not have a physical location and work with multiple partner organizations. Therefore, most work when not teaching programs is done from your own home on a flexible schedule.

For Green Events, most work is done at various event sites around the island, often on weekends. Our youth programs take place at various schools, in outdoor environments such as farms and beaches, and at our partner sites such as Hawaiian Canoe Club.

Our organization’s work revolves largely around youth-led projects, community events and collaboration with community partners.

For this reason, our work is very project based and schedules can vary each week. This position is a good match for a self-motivated person who enjoys creative project management, working with youth, community collaboration and doing something different every day.

If you enjoy a typical 9 to 5 schedule and doing the same thing everyday, this position is NOT for you. Some of our youth programs currently follow a hybrid format with approximately 25% of sessions taking place virtually, and the other sessions taking place in-person, usually in outdoor environments.

We are happy to answer further questions during the interview process.
