JOB SUMMARY :

The Community Trainee – Tax Assistant reports to the Project Coordinator in providing services to eligible community members seeking assistance through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Provide free tax return preparation for eligible taxpayers
  • Tax help to people with low-to-moderate income, senior citizens, persons with disability, those who have limited English proficiency and others who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns
  • Screen taxpayers to determine the type of assistance they need and confirm they have the necessary documents to complete their tax returns
  • Review tax returns completed by volunteer tax preparers, ensuring that every taxpayer receives top quality service and that the tax returns are error-free
  • Attend staff meetings and training as required
  • Perform other duties as required.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :

  • Must have achieved a High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • OTHER REQUIREMENTS :

  • Must attend required trainings on tax preparation after hire
  • Must be at least age 18 to participate in the VITA Program
  • Meet and maintain all KCAO employment requirements which include :
  • Criminal Record Clearance through the California Department of Justice, FBI and Child Abuse Centralized Index (CACI) - applicable for those who are age 18 or beyond

  • Health examination and tuberculin clearance.
