This position involves no clinical involvement.
Candidates must be willing to pick up shifts when needed.
A minimum of 36 hours is guaranteed, however, extra shifts may be required based on staffing needs.
The unit posts a six-week schedule two weeks prior to its start date.
All staff are given a copy of the schedule.
In case of sick calls or emergencies, all staff are expected to try to cover additional shifts.
The unit has seven licensed chairs, with one pod serving three patients and another pod serving four patients.
The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 3-4.
Patients range from adult to geriatric, with a mix of catheters and fistulas.
Nephrologist rounds occur twice a month, and the attending physician is available for phone orders.
There is a charge nurse present on each shift.
Medical assistants and CNAs are not utilized in this department.
Only licensed practical nurses and registered nurses are present on the floor.
Common medications include heparin, hep B vaccine, flu vaccine, Zemplar, Ferleccit, cinacalcet, midodrine, darbepoetin alfa, and PRN medications such as tylenol, zofran, and occasional antibiotics.
Equipment used includes Fersenius 2008T.
The electronic medical record system in use is Clarity.
The schedule includes varied shifts with rotating weekends, and every other holiday required.
There is no on-call or standby requirement.
Scrub color is flexible.
Unit-specific orientation includes three shifts with another RN working the floor, depending on experience.
The ideal candidate should demonstrate teamwork, motivation, compassionate care, patient safety, and attention to infection control.
A radius rule of 50 miles applies, and candidates should not have worked for any associated facility within the past 12 months.
All requested time off must be provided upfront, and additional requests will not be approved after submissions.
The hospital can cancel up to four shifts per 13-week assignment.
The charting system in use is Meditech.
A BSN is not required for this position.
This role provides an opportunity to work in an acute care setting.
